I won't pay $10 for a can and anyone that does is a sucker.

You can drive to VT and buy it for much, much cheaper than that.

Yes paying $10 for a can of beer that costs $3 from the brewery is a bit excessive, but not everyone has the time nor the resources to make a 6 hour round trip between Boston and Waterbury. And yeah, you could definitely trade for it, but if you see it in a bar, and you've never had it before and have always wanted to, then why not?

$10 for 16 honest ounces of DIPA is perfectly in line with LH's prices. Most DIPAs are what, $7+/12oz? That's $9.33/16oz.

What? I'm pretty sure when I had one last week it was $8/can. And that's 16oz for $10, which means that $1 gets you 1.6oz. Walk down to Meadhall and there are plenty of DIPAs on tap for $8-10 for a 10-12oz.

Hmmm...Well I have plenty in my fridge. So going out and spending $10 a can does sound on the surface to be a little nuts to some....BUT

Sometimes people lose site of the reason we all like to go out to a bar and have a brew. It's a social and a community thing. We all love great beer. We love to talk, blog, post, tweet, instagram, video, photo, laugh, hate and overall enjoy a beer with others. Sometimes when you try something so good you just want to express that feeling with someone else. It can be a release. It can be a place we go to just to get out of the house with the lady and chat amongst people and try a new beer. It might be a chance to get out and enjoy a beer with a friend you haven't seen in a long time. Maybe we want an escape from a significant other for an hour or two. Either way we enjoy the social aspect of drinking great beer at a great bar. So if you have never had it, only had it at the brewery, only get to drink it when you are home or if you take it somewhere with you, then maybe you are intrigued by the idea of being able to consume heady amongst others, seeing their reactions, and sharing the joy with them. I can spend $10 on a lot of things. But if I want to spend it on 1 GREAT beer instead of 2 good ones or maybe I really only need one good beer. Then what's the big deal with spending $10. Better than spending on butts, 4 bud lights, fast food, a shot of alcohol (I will never understand the point, never did) etc.

Everyone has the right to spend or not spend. But don't make people feel shitty if they want to spend the $10 on the beer. It’s the entire experience not the beer a lot of times.

I have plenty at home and would still pay $10 for a can and share a few laughs with everyone there.

I don't jump on paying $10/can because i have been lucky enough to be able to go there or have a friend generously pick some up for me while in the area. But i mean if you're at a bar and you want a Heady Topper then pay it. Who cares. 16oz 8% #1 Beer in the world? just buy it and enjoy. Especially when the bars that have this are Lord Hobo or the Armsby. I have no problem donating money to their causes.

Yeah - I was actually there this past weekend when they had Heady cans. I've had it so much that I passed, but more because I've had Heady a billion times and figured I'd let others have a crack at the small number of cans. Plus they had some awesome drafts on tap.

But yes, stuff like Bear Republic or Stone is $7-$8 for a 12oz pour, so $10 for a 16oz can is sadly right in line. Craft bars have just gotten very expensive.

Yes, at least from the batch that's being referred to here. My wife and I lucked into buying the last two cans at Lord Hobo on Saturday early evening. (First time we'd tried Heady; gotta say, it lives up to the hype, but it's pretty comparable with some great offerings I've had from Surly Brewing.)

Interesting with Surly Brewing, That's a new company to me. What brew from their company would be comparable? Thanks!

Surly is out of Minneapolis. Heady reminded be a bit of Surly Furious (IPA). The bitterness in Furious tends to linger a bit longer on the palate compared to Heady. Both delicious; just different. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/13014/28203
