Hmmm....guess I had Grand Rapids on the brain that morning? Must have been the Doom I drank the night before. I meant to say Saint Paul. :astonished:

Ugh. Apparently I was the victim of the type of clerical error I mentioned. Didn't get overly excited since I heard the announced results, but I did get a bit excited when the coversheet said my IIPA advanced, only to find out it did not.
AHA, take all the time you need...just get it right!

    cheers--

There are def clerical errors in play right now. nobody get their hopes up until they revise the winners list.

in their defense it must be hard to organize something of this scale.

    see you guys in philly

well no score sheets yet but I did find my scores at http://www.brewingcompetition.com. I didn't even get one to score in the 40's. I am going to go cry in my crappy beer now.

I judged nearly 100 NHC beers this year. One biere de garde, one stout, one cider, and one saison got 40 or higher.
40 is not the cutoff for "crappy beer"

    just sayin...

I'm really interested to see my feedback, too. I got a 33.5 on my first (traditional) mead and a 40.5 on my Berliner (advanced to mini-BoS but didn't place, must have been tough competition this year!).

My first Competition down, got a 25 on a Blonde Ale and 26 Amber Ale. If brew'n was easy everyone would do it. I'm really anxious to see the feedback. Hopefully some good insight on my water I’ve been playing around with, not expecting it though.

Thank you for the perspective. Please redact "crappy" replace with something to the effect...failed to meet hopes. Further, one of mine did make it to the mini-BOS, two that should have been trash scored above 30, and one that scored 30.5 is a recipe that is currently in commercial production. I have only judged once and the pressure on these guys is more than they know so another thank you to those who do it.

Another thing to keep in mind is that these are huge competitions which require a boatload of judges. New judges can score beers inconsistently and subjectively, and as pecokid noted above, the experienced judges also have their work cut out and may judge 50+ beers over the competition. Add in 'bottle sickness' if beers are shipped and it can be worse.

A judging sample is a very different beast than a keg at home.

Are they going to send us an email with info on when and where to ship for the final round?

the shipping location is shown here:
    http://www.brewingcompetition.com/final/index.php?section=entry
though I'd probably wait for the e-mail for it to be official. That page also lists the deadline (I like the 3:05 AM deadline :grinning:) however I note that the rules page on the AHA site has a different, slightly later deadline.

Per the aforementioned rules page they will send you a how/when/where notice to you via e-mail by May 24th.

    good luck--
