I just picked up the Utopias 10th Anniversary for $266 after taxes. I am tying to feel out if it's worth trading. Do you guys think anyone will go over $4$ for this or should I just drink it with a buddy willing to pay half? I'm on the fence.

NOT SURE IF SERIOUS, BUT THIS WILL GO FOR WAY UNDER $4$.

I was thinking the same thing. I couldn't pass it up though. Well at least I will know what Utopias tastes like.

At best, $4$, but you paid on the high end.

Also, IMO, what you paid in sales tax is between you and your home state. I don't tack on my state income tax to the price I paid for bottles

You overpaid for it, MSRP is like $150-200 max.

Unless you have an older vintage, it won't trade for $4$. That being said, I buy two every year because it is so good. Drink up and enjoy.

One of the best beers I've had in 2013...If it were me, I'de save it for the opening game of the 2013 NFL Season and drink it with my Fantasy Football League...

    Cheers!

Why the hell would you spend $266 on any beer? Nevermind one that you thought you might want to trade before even knowing what it might trade for?

I like Utopias a lot, but at $160 I think it is extremely overpriced.

Then you probably shouldn't trade it. Also, consider drinking with more than one buddy and asking them to pay nothing, it will be more fun that way.

I think people think of it more like whiskey (with fair reason). And, $160/$266 is also a lot of a bottle of whiskey, but certainly not unheard of.

Then why did you say "I am tying to feel out if it's worth trading."

If you wanted it, you wouldn't have asked that question, or even made this thread.

I agree to a point, which is how I've justified the couple of bottles I've bought in the past. But at $160, that's about 15 $10 servings. Overpriced, yes, but somewhat justifiable when compared to a $20/750ml bottle. At $260 though, that's approaching a $20/serving, which is kind of crazy IMO.

Not like I owe you any kind of explanation of why I purchased this but I'm going to ease your mind here because obviously you care. I am gainfully employed, with a beer budget, and I am working down the top beers on BA. Utopias is one of them I wish to have. If I could get a $4$ trade then I would for some others higher up on my person favorites list, since it is clear that I can not I will drink the overpriced beer.

Why would I fly out to Santa Rosa to sit and drink Pliny? Why would I pay $200 for a Vanilla Bean Dark Lord?
    Because I want to.

I care because this is the shit that is destroying the trading community. But I'm shouting into the wind these days, so go nuts and enjoy.

to answer your question int eh most civilized way possible
It will trade for approximately 200 worth of "shelf" beer if you find the right person and aren't picky about what you receive
It will trade for approximately 150 worth of easily accessible beer if you want to be more picky
It will trade for approximately 100 worth of more limited beer/brewery only stuff
It will trade for approximately 50$ worth of insta-whales or other highly sought after brews

Thank you! I'll still drink it but this WAS what I imagined the responses would be like when I posted this. I really do appreciate when people are willing to help.
