I liked Palo Santo a lot when I had it on draft for the first time last year. I "won" a four year old bottle of it recently too, and holy smokes was it good! I might pick up a single every 8-12 months now and stash in my basement for a vertical.

Totally agree. I have tried two DHL: Palo Santo and Aprihop. Both are in my top ten at the moment.

i have possibly a dumb question: do they use the same palo wood barrel year after year? and if so, wouldn't the barrels impart less wood flavor after more brews?

Definitely a top-5 beer for me.

    Pretty sure you're right.
Hot is not a word I'd use to describe PSM.

Just different tastes I suppose. A lot of people think Backwoods Bastard is a hot beer when fresh, but I think just the opposite. It's all subjective.

Best beer they brew IMHO. Age a few for 3+ years. You will be rewarded.

Great question. Same goes for Burton Baton. Curious to see a few responses...

Wow, that's exactly how I feel about Sierra Nevada. That being said, the Ovila Quad I love. The rest of SN's offerings that I've had don't excite me. Oh, well, to each their own though.

    Enjoy your beer!

I had one fresh and wondered why I bought it. It was just ok to me. Then I had a two year old one and it was one of my favorite beers. I'm not drinking the rest of mine for at least two years!

Agree but please don't put Rogue in the same class as DFH or SN.

    **aaaaaand cue uber-opinionated rant....sorry, I need a study break**
SN makes fantastic beer, period. DFH makes some world-class beers, has a ton of solid beers, some that are nothing special, and also isn't afraid to push the envelope (in ways that actually creative, or at least interesting) Rogue just sucks balls. I think there is a lot of unjustified BA hate towards DFH, but not enough towards Rogue (ok, ok, maybe thats a bit harsh....but im bitter, beerless, and studying for a diffyQ midterm.) Rogue is a brewery I WANT to like so badly! I seem to love everything about Rogue (their company philosophy, business model, bottles and artwork etc.) EXCEPT for their beer. They just have yet to make something that really knocks my socks off. They make a few decent beers, and a ton of "meh" beers, but nothing really exceptional. I do really enjoy both Dead Guy and Double Dead Guy Ale, and thought the Morimoto Imperial Pilsener was super interesting/fun, but outside of that most of their beers just seem either incredibly average or downright AWFUL (my first and only drain pour EVER was the voodoo doughnut peanut butter banana ale. Blech!!)

tl;dr I love PSM and hate differential equations

Palo Santo is always on my list of favorites (DFH specifically, and otherwise). Glad you see the light matey.

They do use the same huge barrel, but every so often a cryogenicist freezes the inside and shaves off a millimeter (or less) of the inside of the barrel. Blamo: fresho-Palo-Santo
