For anyone who hasn't experienced the Alpine line-up, you haven't lived yet. =) Their stuff is unbelievable.

 

Wow! Fantastic news! But like it's been said above, it would be a darned pity if they didn't sell any of the brews here in MN.

 

I'm interested to see how this unfolds... a small CA brewery brewing their beer 1,900 miles away only to have all of it shipped to SoCal? Seems odd. Any amount of money that they would save by brewing at Cold Spring would pale in comparison to the cost of shipping every palate of beer half way across the country. Maybe I'm just being optimistic but I can't see how they could do this without also entering a new market closer to Cold Spring.

 

This thread reminds me of the Duet I have in the fridge at home.
I'm going to drink that when I get home.

I get the feeling they are just keeping it on the DL so that we don't get all excited about it. I wouldn't be surprised if they are planning to distribute to a couple places in the midwest.

 

And also make it cheaper to ship... but still. I guess only time will tell.

 

I'm guessing Cold Spring is a midway point for eventual Alpine east coast distro...that's what 21st amendment seems to have done. They are available only on the west and east coasts and MN.

 

yeah i agree with that some of those pallets of Alpine i would think would be headed to Mpls , Chicago, Milwaukee Alpine could make a killing in sales in about 2 dozen shops just in the metro here

 

The release says that they are doing this to "raise enough capital to expand (in California)." What it doesn't say is that they are doing this to temporarily satisfy the local CA market until that expansion.

There are plenty of places closer to San Diego county where they could have contracted this. I read this as if they are just trying to figure a way to raise capital in the quickest way possible to do their own expansion down there, which will eventually satisfy a rabid local demand. If you want to optimise a program to raise capital, you want to trim the expenses. If they can market and maybe have a deal with Cold Spring's assistance to plug and play into a distribution network out here, then this may just be exactly what it states; a move to a part of the country with lower production costs (lower overhead) to raise capital to expand their operations in CA.

Green Flash found great success in expanding by aggressively hitting markets outside CA, which then financed their expansion there. Maybe they had some talks with Alpine and said something like; if they were to do it all over again, it would have been fiscally better to have contracted for those markets instead of shipping.

Hi Guys,

Thank you for expressing interest in little old Alpine. I had no idea we have fans so far away.

Both of you guys would really need to drink an unsafe amount of beer to justify the seriously daunting task of dealing with a distributor in MN. The logical way for us to grow would be to expand out from home. We would need to know we had a much bigger fan base to pursue distribution so far away.

I really appreciate you letting me know how you feel, it is not lost on the big picture.
