Having a friend's bachelor party in Philly in June(not beer week but I'll probably go down for that too) and I need a suggestion for a neighborhood where we can do a sort of informal craft beer bar crawl. We're going to hit some breweries on the way down and we just want to a neighborhood where we can finish the night off. I want a neighborhood that has 4 or 5 craft bars within very easy walking distance. Think not more than 2 blocks average walk between bars. 2 neighborhoods is fine too. We will be getting a few hotel rooms so I want to know where to get a room so we can be closest to the bars. I have the full list of Philly Beer Week participating bars but I know PBW ends up going to some non-traditional craft bars just due to sheer number of events. So just 1 or 2 neighborhoods and I'll plot the points on a google map for myself unless of course one already exists somewhere.

A suggestion for one of these bars with good food would be great too. Not just good bar food. Somewhere we can have a real bachelor party meal. Thanks in advance. If there are any under the radar bars and breweries anywhere within Philly or very close those would be much appreciated as well. We are already hitting Tired Hands but I guess they're not under the radar anymore.

Will you guys be staying in Philly? If so, let us know what area and iwe could make the suggestions more accommodating. mr1581's suggestions are great. However, it is a hike from Center City.

Well we're trying to base our hotel on what neighborhood we want to be in at the end of the night. We'll have a few cars but ideally we'll park them for the night somewhat early on. Not sure what the cab situation is but we'd like to minimize our need for transportation unless absolutely necessary.

If you're staying in center city you can just take a cab to the most desirable neighborhood and take a cab back. It won't be difficult nor will it be too expensive. I think the only expensive cab rides in Philly are to the airport or to West Philly...otherwise you'll be fine.

you can add Tria Rittenhouse to the above route, and if you feel like a walk, Varga bar is 5 blocks from Jose's, and if you're going to be at Jose's, you gotta walk next door to McGlinchy's. Don't forget the gasmask!

Center City. Varga -> Tria -> Strangelove's -> Farmer's Cabinet (food). Farmer's Cabinet has a picnic-style type beer hall table in the back left if you have a large group and can snag it.

Old City. Bierstube -> Irish Pol -> Khyber Pass -> Eulogy -> Philadelphia Bar & Restaurant. I'd eat at Khyber every day if I could, but not sure exactly what you're looking for.

South Philly. Hawthorne's -> Devil's Den -> Pub on Passyunk East -> Birra. Little more spread out, lots of great restaurants along this stretch on Passyunk.

^^^ basically this. i'd say stick with Center City. Also a lot easier to find a hotel in that area. They're kind of slim pickings in other neighborhoods.
Monks, Jose Pistolas, Good Dog, Misconduct, Nodding Head, Perch Pub, Strangelove's (now that it's open)... Varga and Tria are a bit further but still walkable.
i'd choose Misconduct for the food option.

I usually start in Center City and work my way east to Old City. Monk's Cafe to Khyber Pass Pub is a ~30 minute walk with a dozen bars on the way.

I just moved back after six years so I haven't even been to all the places mentioned but I recently was at Cambridge and had some great beers I've never seen anywhere else (Mikkeller 10 Hop for example!), so I'd add that to a Center City crawl.

I like this one for the variety of locations... Barcade and Frankford Hall are unique and very accomodating for larger groups too. You can easily add The Standard Tap, which is a classic philly beer bar destination, to this bar crawl too.

I also like no libs/fishtown. Standard Tap for beer/food, Barcade, Fette Sau for more food, Kraftworks and you are not too far from Yards or Philly Brewing.

You can't go wrong with any of the previous suggestions, but I'll throw out my two cents as well.

I confess I'm a huge fan of both South Philly Tap Room (SPTR) and P.O.P.E. Both places are what I think of as quintessential neighborhood bars, with what I perceive to be a unique to Philly flavor to them. They're not all that far from one another, and then you'd also be fairly near to Hawthornes, Devil's Den and Bella Vista. Both POPE and SPTR have surprisingly good food, along with a very strong tap and bottle list. Bella Vista and Hawthorne's have the added attraction of having a great bottle selection (Bella Vista is a beer distributor), and if anyone wants to brng back a growler to the room, Hawthornes can accommodate them. Devil's Den is another outstanding neighborhood beer bar that is just a few blocks from POPE, Bella Vista and Hawthorne's. Anyway, just one more option to consider. :-)
