It did seem off when I got a 6 of it last weekend, I already ordered a keg for this week so I'm hoping that maybe on draft it will be a little better. Not like I wont drink it anyway!

Yeah I get the palate has changed argument but with this particular beer I dont think so.

Egh. It's a really successful beer and I know many BAs and non-BAs that love this beer. It's possible that a batch was off, but it's really unlikely that they would mess with the recipe. I'd chalk it up to a bad can. And if it keeps tasting bad after that, it's probably you.

No discernible difference for me after having 2 cans over the weekend. Still right up there with Brooklyn summer as my preferred low ABV summer canned beer (how's that for a narrow category?).

I killed a 6er on the beach last week - still tastes great to me!

Got another couple 6ers this weekend while working on the deck and they had the same citrusy hoppy flavor i got before, perhaps my first 6 was old or just sub par? Either way it seems that its not all bad, which im happy about

Are there freshness dates on the tallboys ? I had a sixer that must have been last year's stock...

I totally agree with this, the first year it was out there was definitely more citrusy hop presence in the beer, last year it dropped out almost entirely, I have yet to have it this year.

On the bottom of the can, there's a julian date. Mine read 073 or the 73rd day of 2013, roughly March 14th.

It's not hot enough to crack one open.

    Much obliged Dools !
When it first came out (2011), it had a serious Citra presence. Nowadays, not so much...

Had it, thought it was fine. Never had 2011, for reference, but drank plenty of 2012. It's not like this was ever a hoppy pale ale or something, guys.

Appreciate all the feedback guys. 'Gansett Summer Ale is made with citra and galaxy hops, among others. As you all know, hops are an agricultural product subject to growing conditions and environmental factors that may affect flavor and aroma characteristics from year to year. Some people's palate's are more perceptive to these subtleties, especially in a lighter, sessionable blonde ale like 'Gansett summer. Heavier beers with a bigger malt bill will certainly mask those crop year difference subtleties. All that being said, I can assure you that the recipe is the same as last year. Also, our draft was made at a different brewery in '11 than '12 and '13, which may have contributed to a perceived difference as a result of the different yeast strains. Crafted products and individual's opinions are what makes craft beer great, appreciate the opportunity to discuss with you. Personally I know I'll be crushing these like Quint this summer. Mark

See the 'Gansett guys stick to the recipe. I just wish Sierra Nevada would follow suit, this years Celebration had like no hops, and way too much Nutmeg.

I thought the first year this beer came out it was Citra only. So while it's the same as last year, is it the same as two years ago? I remember being able to pick the Citra out easily back then.

Edit: Narragansett's website only mentions Citra and two row pale malt as ingredients. Doesn't mean there aren't more. Not sure why galaxy wouldn't be mentioned though, unless this is the 2011 description.

Well I just had some tallboy sixers and they were definitely better than that 12 pack I had months ago. I could taste the hop bittnerness and citrus this time.

Good news, any idea when it was canned by chance?

No idea. Just to be safe, I'm going to stick with the sixers and skip the 12 packs.
