Parabola in CO

It actually sucks this year.

 

Same here. Sat on the shelf for a few days.

 

I sit on the other side of this fence. I had the new vintage today and thought it was as good as ever. Maybe it's time to drop my vertical and find out.

As well as Big John, delicious, it's been a few years since Ive had it and I'm happy to report GI hasn't skimped on it.

Parabola, however, seems less this year. I had it on tap at Freshcraft last week and was underwhelmed. I'm drinking the '13 bottle now and feel the same way. I had one of my '12s last night, definitely better. '12 has a little more bourbon and the '13 seems to have a little more hoppiness to it, not something I like in my stouts.
It's still a good beer and I'll happily drink it given any opportunity, but after 2 tastes from 2 sources and having a '12 to compare it to, it just isn't as good as previous incarnations

 

Parker payless had big john Friday afternoon, but I couldn't tell you if its still there.

 

Stopped there an hour ago, no Big John to be seen. Luckily got my Older Viscocity fix instead.

Still looking if anyone's got more sightings.

 

Did you ask for it? It was behind the front counter on a 1 bottle per limit.

 

They sold out in 90 minutes.

 

Dang. Guess working across the street makes my life easier.

 

I think Parabola is tasting delicious as usual. Had it on tap and bottled.

I was on vacation until late yesterday. Anyone have any ideas where either Big John or Parabola may still be running around. Sold out so quick it seems like I timed my vacation horribly.

 

If you don't find a local store, LetsPour.com just released it for online order...

 

Just picked up one at Argonaut.

 

If anyone at the WWBV release will be looking for a bottle or two PM me- somehow ended up with more bottles than I needed. Asked my local store in the mountains to reserve a couple bottles then found it in Denver anyway. Will also be in the Grand Junction area tomorrow so can prob scrounge up a couple more bottles if needed (and PM'd on time).

Looking forward to trying 12/13 side by side this weekend

 

IMO UJ Isn't even in the same ball park as Parabola.. I've had both. Not even close!!!!! Both great overall

 

Had equal amounts of bottles of each and it's not even close, UJ runs circles around Parabola! Around any BA beer really

 

One is bourbon barrels and one is a blend of bourbon and wine barrels, apples and oranges.

 

Did they use wine barrels in previous years too or just this year?

 

disagree! IMO parabola is better.Like saying you can't compare IPAs unless they have the same exact hops or it's apples to oranges..
