    Greetings BA

So, I just got off the phone with my buddy who said one of his friends is trying to raise money for his wedding and that he has 7 FW XI Anniversary beers that he is looking to sell. Why in the hell this guy has held onto these beers for soo long is beyond me. Anyhow, I've never ticked and I'm somewhat interested despite the possible oxidization that may have occurred with these bottles. Also, I'm not sure where he has been storing them. So, as much as I'd like to try this beer, I'm still a little hesitant. My buddy, on the other hand, is dead set on getting a bottle or two from this guy. The fundraiser initially asked $250 each. Yes, absolutely ridiculous.:astonished: My friend wants to buy a couple for $100 each. I still think that's ridiculous. (even though FW sells older anniversary beers at their brewhouse for $75. Might even be more as I haven't been there since last year) So I told him to hold off and see if I can find some in the trade forums here, if he wants it that badly. But I still wanted to get your opinions on the matter.

    Questions:
    • Would you buy one of these bottles?
    • If so, how much?
    • What would this beer take to land in the trading forum?
    Cheers!

No and the "fundraiser" sounds like a total asshat.

I couldn't figure out which was most-appropriate, so I picked all three.

Thank you for the initial feedback. Honestly, I needed to get my buddy a slap in the face and this is it.

    1. Please don't call someone raising money for their own wedding a "fundraiser"
    2. Buy a $100 worth of Parabola/Sucaba and feel good about yourself.

    Cheers!

I dunno, I think the word has a delightful twist of irony in it. Especially for a guy who held onto a beer until way past its peak. Fortunately that will never happen with other valuable beers like BCS Rare or King Henry.

    3. Probably much more than its worth.

FW Anniversary blends are the real deal and right when they're released or just about a year or so after they're released, the general consensus is that they hit their peak. That being said, its also general consensus that these beers fall off very very fast. As is right now, over 5 years after the release date, I'd imagine that if you were to buy a bottle, you'd be spending $100 on a drainpour.

As for trade value, if you could search the old forums, you would see that FW 10 (the first in the series) used to go for wales. However, as of late, regard for it (and thus its trade value) has fallen off a cliff. The same goes for FW 11.

Sounds like your buddy's friend is the worst/most frustrating kind of beer hoarder. The kind that doesn't know when its time to get rid of their stash. You should tell him he's sitting on a pile of oxidized beer that no one wants at this point... and tell him "good luck with that".

Thanks for the feedback SpeedwayJim! It is much appreciated. I never considered buying this for $100. I pondered maybe 40-50, just so I can tick it, but I'm still very hesitant and will probably just let this pass me by. My buddy seems hell bent on getting at least one of these and I'll have to let him be him.

I have no idea who this guy selling the beers is. But I do agree that he's a bit of a douche.

    Cheers!

It doesn't even qualify as ticking it when you know you're going to taste a glass of oxidized wet cardboard.

I can only comment on how FWXI has aged about as gracefully as Amanda Bynes, except one already is full of salt and oxy and te other is, well you know how that entendre goes. Would not recommend either to a friend and if you are wasted and want something faded inside of you, just use Craigslist and avoid the calories.

This is one of the more evocative beer reviews I've seen in a while.

I'm not even sure that guy exists..... I demand a video of Robey Tones and baking sheets to legitimize.

Tell your moron "friend" that a 10 just sold for 150 so his 11 probably isn't worth 250. And unfortunately the person that paid 150 will most likely be very disappointed.

Firestone Walker was/is selling FW13 for $125 at Barrelworks, so I would assume asking $250 isn't that far off.

Don't do it. We had a properly cellared XII about a year ago, and it was somewhat less than a shadow of what their Anny beers normally are, to be kind in a generously euphemisitic way.
