Nice tourist-trap prices they have, too.

Really? I was about to say they have reasonable prices, at least relative to other recent Manhattan bars. Nothing on the menu over $8, plenty of good pints for $7

$7 pints count as tourist trap prices.

$7 a tourist price for NYC?? Hardly. Most bars selling craft beer in NYC are selling beer between $6.50-$14 depending on the beer and place. $7-8 is very normal and a good price IMO.

Where are you getting good craft beer consistently under $7 in the city? Pony Bar doesnt count as pours are smaller..

Has anyone tried the food at Beer Authority yet? Whats the menu like? Satndard pub food thats average or more of a "gastro-pub" with interesting items?

I just read it..very interesting and I have some thoughts on that. First, I dont think its gouging if people are willing to pay it which they obviously are. Its simply the "market rate". If no one bought it they would perhaps lower the price. Manhattan has always had higher prices on just about everything so its not surprising craft beer is this amount. Bud is $4-$6 in many, many bars and people pay it so $7 for craft beer doesnt seem odd.

Also, its unfair to compare Pony Bar...they are one outlier in Hells Kitchen and the majority of their pours are NOT 14 ounces..I believe they are those 8-10 ounce pours (high end beers at 6oz) with a maybe a couple of the less costly ones at 14oz ..

Also, you think Pony will be serving $5 beers at their new UES location opening soon? I am very curious about that! Nearby bars like Jones Wood, Copperfields, Dalsace serve beer at $7-$10

I agree that gouging is a poor word choice - not sure it can apply to luxury items. Maybe this is just another reason why I don't go to bars much anymore.

I asked them on Twitter about the prices at the new place on the UES and they said yes they will still be $5 pours
