I'll be in Colorado Springs for a week in early April. Where are the best places to go for a beer, bottleshops, ect.
Phantom Canyon (Downtown), Bristol (South), Trinity (NW), Pikes Peak (Monument) and Old Chicago's has an Oskar Blues beer you can't buy in stores. Another Pint in Monument probably has the best selection of hard to get beers on tap. Phantom has a wide array of stuff now, Bristol is right next to Blue Star, which has half-off imperial beers on Thurs night. Trinity is the hipster/trendy brewery in town (Saisons, Sours, Belgian, etc.). Coaltrain (right off I-25), Weber Street Liquor (couple blocks from Coaltrain and has great bomber selection) & Veteran's (at Academy & Austin Bluffs) are the best in bottle shops in town. Cheers also has a decent selection.
Forgot about Brewers Republic as another must-stop beer pub (downtown). They get a lot of hard to find local brews too.
Wil be in Co. Springs Friday for 8 days. Anyone know of any Pliny or Firestone Walker in the area? TIA
You should be able to find FW at most places. Sucaba is easy to get and some places still have XV. Double Barrel and Velvet Merlin are still around in 12oz, and bombers of Double Jack are easy to find. Pliny might pop up next week. I'd stop in some places and find out when Elite Distributors comes by. Some places have bottle limits, some dont.
if you can find some bristol winter warlock get into that as well. i think it's a better brew than the velvet merlin, and i think if it was better known it'd get way more hype.
Here's the listing of spots that might get Pliny: Powers Liquors Veterans Wine & Liquor Weber Street Liquors Cheers Liquor Mart Coaltrain
Coaltrain is right to be your first stop, you can also see if they have Pliny on their website: http://www.coaltrainwine.com/ If it is "In Stock" the status on their homepage changes. It usually comes in on Thursdays and sells out by the weekend. I believe it is a one bottle limit and they don't usually put it on the shelves so you have to ask for it. Lastly, Trinity will be tapping their Double IPA "Slap Your Mammy" which is worth checking out.
If you're around and interested, on Friday the 13th, there's Meet the Brewer at Another Pint. I believe the guys from Funkwerks are the focus of this one. They usually put a couple special things on-tap for these.
Funkwerks is on for Meet the Brewer this Friday. If you're into Farmhouse/Saisons - there's a fest at Trinity on Saturday. Usually get a great selection of one-offs from local breweries plus some of the more well known ones (dupont/avril and Boulevard Saison-brett + Tank 7). Not sure if the brewery list is up on their website but its been a good time in past years.
