Just what I was thinking. If Heady Topper, KBS, etc. were rated at 98 they'd be underrated in my opinion. I would love to try Black Tuesday, but alas I doubt I ever will so I can't contribute any further. Also, Zombie Dust is underrated at 99 IMO, it should be 100. Please point out to me where I can find a better APA or IPA than that. I don't even like APAs because they're watered down IPAs IMO, but that beer is incredibly awesome. We could go all day on this, it's just personal preference. There's no point arguing against these threads, because all threads discussing beers are all based on personal preference.

How is '09 and '10 drinking compared to BT fresh? Noticeable differences? Too early to tell?

I totally understand that people will disagree, and I am fine with that. I just wanted to hear some of your reasons. And thanks for posting.....too boozy, too sweet, etc. Not looking to offend anyone. I understand everyone's tastes are different, but when I originaly traded for one there was a lot of negative around it and threads saying how people will never try again and stuff like that. This is purely my opinion and I think it is underrated based on what I hear/know.

One of the most hyped beers right now is Black Note, and in my humble opinion I would take a bottle of Black Tuesday over it. And don't get me wrong, Black Note is damn good. I don't have any Black Note, but I would maybe cellar one and trade the rest for BT (in theory of course, in reality I would hold on to it, being too affraid to trade away). And like I said I am always up for a trade if you have extras, I don't have anything too great in the cellar right now, but who knows.

seriously though, what are the op's expectations? black tuesday is as far from lowest common denominator beer as you can get.

I think big (>15%) imperial stouts are overrated in general!

I agree about personal preference. Zombie Dust, while a great beer, I don't feel deserves a 100 score. That cotton candy-ish, bubblegum unique hop profile becomes too sweet after about 20oz, and after 2+ months in the bottle I'm assuming it becomes an off-putting malty mess. I'm pretty sure all other APAs hold up much better over time. I could be wrong. (Although come to think of it...my rating was pushing the 100 score)

Although not the same style, I'd take Dreadnaught and Arctic PW over it all day. Different preferences for different folks - IT'S ALL GOOD, it's all beer!

As for Black Tuesday, I can't speak to it. It's still eluded me...

I find it as a dessert type sweetness, its rich like eating a giant hershey bar but its better to share a bottle with many so that its like a miniature piece.

Not underrated at all, and one of the best beers I have had yet.

You must not have had any high ABV beers that hide alcohol well then.

I've had good quantities of BT twice. I hated it when I had it sober (first beer at a tasting) and loved it when I was well into a buzz. My current theory is that the massive booziness and sweetness become tolerable while pre-intoxicated. I'd be interested in hearing what people say about BT when they had it completely sober.

Underrated was the wrong word to use.

My translation of the OP is: BT is the greatest beer on earth and I don't understand how someone could think otherwise.

I have Dreadnaught rated higher, but APW wasn't as good to me. I also didn't get that cotton candy bubblegum flavor. Again, personal preference. Who knows lol.

So, basically just the first 6 ounces, because after that sobriety is out the window.

When I had a growler of ZD I probably drank 40oz and wanted MOAR! But it was all gone...

Stop pointing your finger at me!! Haha.

As for APA's I feel they should be sessionable so yes...I judge then by about 24oz. Sessionability should be a factor with that style at least for me. A good Pale should be one I could easily work my way through a 6 pack throughout the afternoon or 1 every 30-45 min or so. Sierra Nevada, Mirror Pond, Stone Pale Ale, and New Dogtown all don't change up the flavor profile THAT notceable even after 3-4 months...

A beer at 12% and above I'd argue 8oz - 10oz is more than enough to judge.

Again, everyone has their own preferences. I don't think I'm right or wrong...this is just what works for me.

    Cheers!!

Oh I definitely have, and I've had beers that taste like boozy messes, but at 18% you are going to taste alcohol. You can't expect it to taste like chocolate milk when it's pretty much a liquor. Booziness in high ABV beers isn't a sign of a bad beer to me as long as it isn't off-putting.

For example, I think Weyerbacher Insanity is a booze bomb, but I really enjoy that beer.

Oh. Well in that case, when I wrote in my review that BT was boozy, I meant it was like drinking bourbon neat. I can't be the only one thinking that.

I've had it like 4 different times and NEVER gotten any booze flavor. I can barely tolerate neat bourbon, and BT is nothing like that, at least for me. I find it absolutely baffling that people think it's boozy, different palates...
