I just moved to Tahoe (early 90's) from the east coast and was at a party and the keg kicked. Some guy had a 12pk of SNPA and gave me one. I was pretty drunk, but realized immediately I had been drinking shit up until that moment.

I started out with cider, and once I ran out of new ciders to try in MD; I came around to beer. Midas Touch from DFH is what turned me on to beer. Since, I loved Midas Touch so much and in turn DFH's approach to beer, I decided to run through their entire line-up of beers. Then, I was turned on to Stone after I remembered trying a friend's Ruination at a celebration and enjoying it. So, I started going through their catalog of beers. Well, I am now up to date on Stone and still have a few left on DFH.

Being from cleveland ohio i want to say it was great lakes. But if i remember right it was actually sam adams honey porter. Great lakes was a close second. I just wasnt old enough to get into bars yet and their distribution wasn't what it is now.

Koelsch/ spending a few months in Germany when I was 17. Sam Adams was the only thing available when I got back, and I think I tried all of their beers. I'll give them the credit for getting me to believe that Americans could brew beers just as good as the Germans.

A fancy brand new liquor store opened up near college just after I turned 21. They had this crazy concept of allowing you to buy single beers and mix-a-six. This was mind blowing to me 7 years ago, never saw a store with that much selection or the ability to buy single bottles.

I knew I wouldn't like Budweiser or the like, so by default, the very first beer I ever tried on tap was Sam Adams Boston Lager. Love was born that night. Got into Sam Adams' lineup and branched out from there.

Somebody gave me a taste of Uinta Labyrinth. I realized there was more to beer than I thought.

My friend was getting into good beers. Before that, all I had tried were light lagers and hated them, so I thought I hated beer. Then he gave me a Boulevard Wheat. The rest is history!

I drank Sam Adams quite a bit for something different than my normal BMC, then Surly came around 7 years ago and wrecked (changed) my palate. Couldn't go back to piss water after that.

This was many years ago... I was about 19 or so but already had my share of the "usual suspect" beers, Bud, Miller, Coors etc. Then one day I was reading the Los Angeles Times and they had an article about what they considered the best beer at the time, Anchor Steam. I managed to convince my older brother to buy a six pack for me.

I gave him a couple of bottles and shared the remaining 4 with a friend of mine. We liked it, but can't say we were blown away. However it did open my eyes to the fact that there were other (and much better) beers than the "usual suspects" available out there.
