Hopslam vs headhunter vs hoptimum

get this years right this second! not boozy, and it was so well balanced it blew me away. I got it the day it was released, but I would hope the flavor profile hasnt changed much since then.

 

Why? You can say a lot of things about Hoptimum, but if you are a DIPA guy, it's far from undrikable...in fact it's just the opposite.

Be honest, it is a little boozy, but that's how I want my DIPAs. Is Hoptimum the best DIPA out there? No. Is it an excellent beer and a perfect example of the style that can be had for a very, very reasonable price? Absolutely.

 

I prefer headhunter to hopslam, and hopslam blows hoptimum out of the water. Like mentioned earlier, hopslam is thick and sweet so the body of hoptimum is comparable to that mouthfeel but tastes are miles apart. For me, headhunter is the winner with the clean grapefruity bitterness that I love.

 

Couldn't agree more, personally I hated this beer.

 

Damn really? I loved head hunter. I got some older bottles a few months ago and it was pretty meh but I just picked up some super fresh ones in Pittsburgh and they were amazing. I would assume that you being in Ohio you'd get them pretty fresh too. Well to each his own.

In terms of this I'd probably go Hopslam > Head Hunter > Hoptimum although they're all pretty different.

Hopslam has that nice floral citrus note balanced with the honey.

Head Hunter is a huge bitter bomb but with grapefruit, orange rind.

Hoptimum when really fresh is a dank, piney, grapefruit, huge bitter bomb. Definitely more bitter than Head Hunter.

 

haha no I love Head Hunter! I meant Head Hunter = Sucks, as in Lagunitas Sucks. I've always felt the beers are very similar..

 

hahaha gotcha! Damn lagunitas for their confusing beer names!
