How on earth are some of you defending Pliny as nuanced, balanced, and not a hop bomb? I've not had Heady, so I don't know if these claims are a kind of excuse for Pliny being less extreme than Heady, but they're definitely false.

Heady and PtE are different flavors of magic. PtY was the let down for me.

Regular Pliny drinker tries Heady Topper: (over 15 different times)
Solid beer. Nothing more, nothing less. Not sure what all the fuss is about....

You haven't had as many crazy silly hop bombs as we have then, I guess. Not saying this in a derogatory fashion, but pliny is superbly balanced for an DIPA.

Moral of the story: Dont over hype things. Its just beer.

Pliny on tap >>> than Heady any day of the week. unless of course you enjoy garlic and aluminum in your DIPA's.

I'd settle for one each and really won't care who's better. Just to have them would be reward in themselvies.

Let me throw this out....Lawsons has a beer called Peril (11.2abv) that is the exact same flavor profile as Heady, just a thicker mouthfeel.

I can't speak for Pliny but I was lucky enough to get some cans of HT recently and it absolutely lives up to the hype IMO. The closest thing I've had might be Permanent Funeral. Anyone else had both and think they are similar?

"The first time I tried it..." And then I had more and my idea on Heady changed (for the better).

Your statement makes zero sense in the context of the subject matter. Care to elaborate?

I admit to having some of the same thoughts as the OP when I first tried Pliny, but I think the above comment captures how I feel about it now. Side note though: It sure is priced like a hop bomb. Pliny costs roughly TWICE what Heady does. Thanks to Mr. Kimmech for keeping Heady reasonably priced, when he could easily charge more!

Having never tried either, neither impresses me at all.

    I'm terribly disappointed.

But I tend to go along generally with the idea that the best beer in the country won't really be all that much better than the best beer at your local liquor emporium.

Heady is a great beer, just wish it wasn't mission impossible locating some. Would gladly pay price + 50% for some, anyone??
