We all know about the prices, but I was able to find some stuff I was willing to pay for. - Bought "the last" Parabola for $19.99 - They have a shit ton (that's alot) of FW 16 for $29.99 - They also have a shit ton of Brooklyn Black Ops for $29.99 (I passed on this) - They also have Fantome Hiver (fingers cross this one isn't a dude) which I bought because I've never seen it before. -Also found Ola Dubh 12, 16, and 18.
Man, if I had a nickel for every time I hoped someone wasn't a dude... and a nickel for every time I hoped a Fantome wasn't a dud...
The Parabola was only $3 more than some other stores in the area, which isn't bad for the perfect pour mark-up! I walked past the Black Ops a couple of weeks ago and thought about it for a moment, then decided I could do a lot more with that $30 than one bottle.
I paid $5 less for Parabola, $9 less for FW16 and about the same price for Black ops ( maybe $1 less). Dam they **** people with their pricing.
I thought about it too but the champagne yeast stopped me from buying it. I never see it so I thought I'd mention it.
I payed $5 less for 3 Parabola's as well, didn't seek out 16 until it was too late. If I traded for it I would have ended up paying close to it to ship something to someone. I agree. Total ****. No lube. But I wanted it rough today apparently.....
Just wait about 2 or 3 weeks when Parabola is all gone from the area, and one suddenly appears on the top shelf at PP, it will be at least 30 dollars.
That made me SOOOO angry. I've been dying to try those beers. Any idea where else I could find them (obviously and hopefully for cheaper)?
I think those beers were pushing $30 at non-rapey stores. Which is ridiculous for something from any American brewery, let alone Du Claw.
Unfortuantely, there's probably a lot of truth to this statement. In my experience, 10% to 15% higher than normal mark-up is about the norm for the PP. However, that's only if the beer is, for the most part, generally available in the local market. Once the market dries up and the PP perceives that they're the only one still offering a particualr beer (and they feel the demand for it is still high), then they'll start jacking the price up. Hey, we live in a capatilstilc society, so one way to look at what the PP is doing is that they're just taking advantage of supply and demand. If folks are unhappy with their pricing policy, then here's my suggestion: 1) If there's a particular beer you're interested in, do your homework, figure out when it's going to be released, call around to find out what local stores are going to carry it, and SHOP THERE when the beer is released. 2) If for whatever reason you can't do number one, then accept the fact that you missed out, but that there are still plenty of other great beers out there, and BUY THOSE BEERS instead. 3) If you can't do number one, and you can't take the philosphical approach noted in number 2, then by all means look to see if you can fnd the beer at the PP. However, understand what the consequences of that decision are going to be, and that you have no one to blame but yourself for shopping for THAT BEER at the PP. The PP has been engaging in this sort of behavior for years now, so I think we all know what to expect when we shop there. I'll finish by saying that it's only a rip off/**** if YOU decide to pay their price for an exhorbitantly priced beer. Just my two cents on this, but don't do it and don't shop at the PP. It's not as if we don't have other options... take advantage of those other options!
Honeygo should have both of them still for $27ish IIRC. I got mine there almost a month ago. They got 3 cases of each.
I got a bottle of 2012 Sucaba at Perfect Pour a month or so ago for $20. I thought that was strange. Doesn't really fit the "Mark up when it disappears from the area" theory. Not sure what kind of drugs the powers that be at PP are doing, but I'll bet they're really good.
PP seems to sell a lot of it's beers at "bar" prices... like if I go into a bar and buy a beer - If the price of a 6 pack is $6, the single beer will be $6 at the bar. If a 22oz is $10, it will be $15-20 at the bar. Etc. Every once in a while, they actually sell something for a reasonable price.
