Usually the forgotten brewery on the Rt. 151 section of Brew Ridge Trail in VA as Blue Mountain and Devil's Backbone get most of the press/attention, I wasn't particularly impressed with Wild Wolf on my first two visits almost a year ago. The beers were muted and murky; not particularly distinctive. I had been hearing that there have been improvements in both their beer and food and tested it today. I did a sampler of the seasonal beers and every beer was solid with several being very good and distinctive. The Ginger Lager and Honey Saison were especially tasty and their smoked brisket sandwich was awesome. Their flagship beer Alpha Ale (American Pale) has been cleaned up and is a nice accompaniment to Blue Mountain's Full Nelson. Best of all, like Full Nelson it is now available locally in cans.

It's great to know there are now three compelling stops to make on the Brew Ridge Trail. Starr Hill, it's time for you to step up to the bar.

I will check them out if they reach Richmond. Love supporting local breweries.

Awesome to hear, making a road trip to Asheville from CT in July and looking to go through VA on the way down and was looking for places to stop.

Haven't seen them but I have been going in with specific brews in mind so I haven't looked much either.

Not to brewery bash....but I am from the area and Wild Wolf is easily my least favorite brewery around. Alpha ale is decent...I guess what I am trying to say is dont waste your money folks.

Blue Mountain and Devils Backbone are worth a go. A lesser known jewel is Champion Brewing Company in charlottesville.

I'll have to keep an eye out for the cans next time I'm down from the Allegheny Plateau. Hopefully their price is not as high as Full Nelson (which I love and always return with regardless of price)

Thanks for the suggestion, we are gonna spend the night near Harrisonburg hopefully, then cruise through the area and down into Knoxville.

Anyone have information on the crooked rd Appalachian music tour? We are looking to do a bit of driving and find some good mountain music.

SO THIS. Much, much better of the "wolfs". They have one of the best DIPA's in the state, and their milk stout is stellar as well.

Good call on Champion. I gotta say, my Wild Wolf experience is a very recent one; a month ago I'd be saying the same thing you're saying.

I will give them another shot since I live pretty close but I have been underwhelmed in the past. I also heard recently there is another brewery coming into charlottesville called Three Notch'd Brewing Company http://threenotchdbrewing.com/ website says August 2013. Cheers.
