I know where I will not be going anymore. Sounds like a bunch of butthurt to me.

To be fair, these changes WILL hurt retailers. In general, I'm not as worried about that with the big guys, who probably make most of their $ on Bud Light sales anyway, but for smaller, craft-focused stores like Sam's, this will be a much more significant change, so I can understand his concern about it. It might be better in the long run, like Jeff said, but in the short run, its likely going to financially hurt.

Why? If you look at a lot of the limited releases that go through the retail process, you come away with a good amount of butthurt people that couldn't get their beer. Look at the recent situation with KBS. There are always a lot of people who get upset about not getting what they want and the brewery is a easy target cause its their beer. This also applies to stores too, you'll see stores getting upset that they didn't get a specific beer when another store did. All this crap that happens with limited releases going through the distros doesn't make it fun (driving all over the damn place, stores hiding beer, secret lists, and so on), as a result you have people, stores and whomever else all upset because they didn't get a chance at the limite release, and who's the guy they take it out on? The brewery. Don't believe me, BA is littered with threads blaming breweries for stuff like this.

Brewery only release isn't perfect bit it's a more effective way of doing limited releases if done right. People know its all being released at one spot and once it's all out its gone. There's no waiting game, calling all the stores, driving 100 miles a day store to store.

And those of us that don't live in Austin will miss out on something with otherwise could have had.

If they are going to do limited releases only at the brewery I really think they should consider a reserve society so that those in other areas have a chance to get the limited releases.

It would be nice but if they don't want to put up with that headache initially, I understand.

FYI: If any Austinites didn't know yet, I'll be down there June 1st with mrkmrk and lndsy. We'll probably go to Jester King as soon as they open. And then maybe hit up the Draught House. Would be cool if someone wanted meet us at either place. Maybe have a mini-bottle share.

Jeff, I know you've been OK with it in the past, but I respect your brewery to ask you if it's OK to have a little bottle share? I'd be happy to bring a split a Cantillon St. Lamvinus with you even.

I see the Rubicite thread has been deleted. Why respond to criticism when you can delete it?

    I don't get it.

A reserve society would give people outside of Austin access to the brews and avoid the need to distribute; would it not?

edit: okay, I get it now. Touche

That was the "Why can't Texas beer release news be in the beer news" thread. Topic: we apparently can't stay on it.

So? I mean, god forbid conversation evolves naturally. God forbid we talk about what we want on a forum where nothing in particular is trying to be accomplished.

*Danger: While allowed, there is a decent chance a Ron Extract may pounce on your beer.

Not to mention that a thread with a title evocative of the subject that we were discussing would just get deleted sooner.

Anyhow, since they apparently love to delete Jester King threads, let's not bait them here.

Alex told me about this. I believe my fiance and I will be in attendance as well. Haven't exactly decided what I should bring yet though.
