Forgive my ignorance but how come places in Austin and Houston are able to sell bottles for take home but every place I call in the Dallas area tells me that they can't legally sell it to go and they could loose their license if they did. Are they full of it or is there something special about the Dallas area that I'm not aware of?

I think Dallas/DFW has a different kind of license setup from the rest of Texas..

Be interesting to learn more on the nuances. I'd guess city/county ordinances maybe have a play.

Who's planning on going to Baker's Street Pub Clear Lake for some BB3? I'm heading over there after work for some BB3, then heading to Nobi for some 005 Hellfighter and some Victory at Sea. Good way to start the Memorial Day weekend!

To sell these bottles to go... they need a BG (Wine/Liquor Retailer) license. I know in some parts to TX, due to local laws... this type of license isn't available. It's an on & off premises license.

Kyle (just south of Austin) actually didn't allow BG licenses till very recently, when it was voted in... so I imagine there are still many places in TX where it just isn't available.

Thanks I think I read about that particular license in the link 13DegN posted. I guess places around here either can't obtain one of those licenses or just aren't willing to.

Ya I would do a lot of things to get my hands on as much BB2 as I can. I just think it is phenomenal as a beer that transcends beer. It is almost becoming a tart desert wine to me and I love it.

Warning: I did kill a Hellfighter, BB Hellfighter, JK Censored, BB2, and Hoptimum and it took me about 10 minutes to type this response so who knows what the @*$& I'm saying..... All I know is BB2 is effing awesome.

    Go Longhorns!

What I understand is you must have a retail license to sell bottles to go and a lot of restaurants only have a liquor license. You must have both to sell to go bottles.

It's crazy to me how much easier this stuff is get ahold of in ATX than in Houston. I was living in Houston when BB1 hit and I had to stand in line at The Hay Merchant in the heat for over an hour and that was miserable. Now, I just kind of hang back, compare prices, and buy it whenever. People sit on it here, too. I picked up 1 and a 2 like two weeks ago.

The craft beer scene in Houston in ridiculous. Any beer that has any hype to it is snatched up immediately and anything limited from Saint Arnolds or Karbach is gone in a flash. I definitely wish it was easier to get beers here but it isn't.
