Posting Trade Offers in ISO:FT

?

Why are you posting your trade offers in the ISO:FT forum?

  1. I'm new and didn't know it wasn't done that way before when we could post in that forum.

  2. I'm too lazy to start a private conversation. I mean, it's TWO more clicks. Exhausting.

    6.3%
  3. It's easier for me to get the beers being offered if others see what I'm willing to give.

  4. I think all offers should be public. Freedom of Information Act, man.

  5. Other. If you choose this, please explain.

While bumping is terrible, I see nothing wring with public trade offerings. I hope veterans aren't in agreement because in private they can offer less to newer BAs. The argument that something common is as good as a whale may be true at times but I wouldn't trade my 12 year old nephew a Seiko for his Rolex. They both tell time great.

I believe the vast majority on here are fantastic traders, it has been my experience. Building a solid stream of steady traders makes it easy to find what you are looking for and avoid the ever growing bidding wars in the trade forum.

No way. I think most of us are in agreement for two reasons:

No one ever posted trade offers in the old forums unless they were new but quickly learned through responses from other BAs (what now might be called thread shitting for some reason) that they should make their offers through BMs, and that system worked great for years.

Posting offers in threads leads to auctions, which leads to profiteering and opportunism, and that's not what we're supposed to be about here. I'm glad we have the ability to respond to trade threads again because that forum quickly fell into one big classified ad where people were just trying to get to most out of the value of their beer. While we all may be a little rusty with the right way to teach newer BAs the ropes, I think like everything else that changes and then changes back, eventually it'll calm down and reach a point where it feels just like it did before. At least that's my hope.

It's completely the opposite, really. When I trade with noobs I'm going to hook them up and show them by example how to be generous. People did that for me when I was starting out, and that's how the circle continues. Plus, in all honesty, it's easier to get limited releases from vets anyway - people who have been around the block don't hold onto limited releases with an iron grip and realize that beer is just beer. Meanwhile, noobs tend to over-inflate what they hold and de-value what others hold. See most popular widely distributed releases in the last 6 months for lots of examples.

I'm not sure why you would even jump to that conclusion though, particularly on page 2 of this thread - there's been at least a dozen well thought-out reasons throughout this thread from vets why public trading discussions lie somewhere between unnecessary and detrimental to the community.

Considering you took one sound bite out of my entire statement I can see why you are quick jump to conclusions.

I digress... If someone has a FT and a combo of wants, posting in the thread is often easier to manage. One also wouldn't have to weed through the BMs, often times those with different offerings from the initial want.

Just because you are a good trader doesn't mean many haven't received BMs for ridiculously one sided trade offers. I have, but hey, like I stated earlier; most dealings on the site are good people looking for fair trades.

I picked that one sentence because it was rather inflammatory and was also thematic to your entire post.

I get BM's for ridiculously one-sided trade offers all the time, at one point I stopped bothering to list my real 'gots' because it got so bad. They're still par for the course on any FT/ISO - I simply delete them and don't respond. It's not a vet/noob thing at all though...

We can agree to disagree, and that's fine, I'm just pointing out that there are a lot of great reasons why most vets are opposed to this, and none of them have anything to do with screwing over noobs as you implied.

I'm not really sure what you're trying to say here. The default way of arranging trades is BMs, so if people are responding in the thread, that makes yet another location of offers to weed through, on top of the conversations in their inbox. A lot of people have expressed good reasons why they prefer to keep their discussions private, so your preference isn't going to lead to a change in the standard. I don't think it's currently against the rules to request offers in your thread (unless that counts as bumping, which it probably does, or devolves into an auction, which it might), so if that's your preference, just ask people to post their offers in the thread and see what happens.
