I have a preference for hop forward IPAs (i.e., West Coast style IPAs) but from time to time I enjoy drinking IPAs that are more balanced (hoppy and malty). Some of my favorite balanced IPAs are: Victory HopDevil, Southampton Burton IPA, and Sam Adams Latitude 48.

    Cheers!

P.S. Another balanced IPA that I am drinking right now is Deschutes Inversion IPA.

Even though Racer 5 is a "west coast" IPA, I find it also to be pretty balanced.

Crooked Tree IPA is another one.

I now realize your initial incredulity stemmed from your understanding of the definition of lukewarm to mean something significantly above room temperature. I read lukewarm as room-temp. Warming up beer is only appropriate after Alpine ski runs, IMO.

I love 'em! Everytime I go to a store I have every intention of getting something other than an IPA, but I always end up buying an IPA.

Tasmanian IPA is an amazing beer, especially at the price point. I too am looking forward to it (and will be ready for a good hop fix after I drink approximately 8,000 bottles of Great Lakes and Sam Adams O'Fests).

Agree with this as well. Recently I've gotten into the lighter "Session IPAs". I know they likely aren't an IPA by style definition, but a lighter hoppy brew is damn good when the weather warms up. Always love a big citrusy/tropical IPA as well. And even though I know how you feel about West Sixth's bicker w/MH, they still make a damn good IPA that helps with that citrus craving I get way too often.

I think Mr. Pattison is the tits, and read him all the time, but when one's own post states 'I virtually never drink one" what's the point of expressing an opinion on the matter, and of what possible utility is the four word contribution "I find IPAs boring?"

My immediate response, directly below Mr. Pattison's post, was intended as a nonconfrontational intimation to the effect that, just because he's as knowledgeable as anybody since, oh, Michael Jackson, that doesn't mean he can't on occasion be, and he certainly is in this instance, no more than a troll.

I like IPAs...but lately have been exploring porters and stouts.

How about, because everyone is allowed an opinion of their own?

You have to admit, the reply from Vlad that made sport of his answer was pretty ignorant to the knowledge of a well-respected authority on the subject. What next? scoffing at Marty Cornell's learned opinion too?

I read it as a ironic play on the type of comment seen on threads about lagers (in which, typically, the OP is not even asking about one's "feelings" on the subject, as is the case here), where people chime in with "I never drink lagers. I think they are boring." Are such people trolling, too? Or is it somehow more acceptable to post such comments if you are actually ignorant on the matter?

Such people are in fact trolling. Do you suppose otherwise?

Actually I have asked them myself many times, as I couldn't comprehend that their taste buds -- which they seem to tout above all else as the end-all be-all of beer drinking experience -- aren't picking up on all the flavors present in most every lager style out there (primarily non-macro, but even some macros). They, however, have repeatedly assured me that there is not enough flavor in lagers for them to find them anything but boring, much less appreciate or like them.

Cold meds kicking in? Black IPAs are a good substitute for Nyquil.

Quoted just to say I love your pic, Wintersun is amazing.

As for my thoughts on IPAs, I enjoy the whole spectrum, it just depends on my mood. Sometimes I want a really fruity and citrus-y hop bomb. Other times I want a super-bitter IPA that leaves you unable to taste anything for an hour. Other times I want a balanced brew of malt/hops. Overall, there are good and bad IPAs of any variation; stick to the good ones and they all have their place.

I don't understand your buddies...I mean, if you had never tried a stout, sure you should try them, but maybe you don't like them. What I don't enjoy is the implication that IPAs are somehow immature.

Doesn't Kern Citra use this method? Absolutely stunning aroma.

Any obtainable recommendations for Belma or Mosaic heavy/exclusively hopped beers?
