I love IPA but I like other styles as well and I will say that I had to step back from IPA's to rediscover everything else again. Also...every ones got an IPA and an IPA'brid now so just cuz it says IPA doesn't mean it's all good.

potent cocktail of cold meds plus people debating whether they in fact did or did not disrespect ron pattinson when commenting on his preference in beer.

Sadly the 3 Mosaic I have had are all small local releases, Hill Farmstead S&S 6, TG Sosus, and one that slips my mind we had at a Festival of NY brewers. Also at that festival we tasted a Saranac (don't laugh, they are stepping up their game, their new pilot system is state of the art and brew staff now includes guys who are incredibly talented) test batch, their White IPA made with Belma, brand new hop, fucking awesome hop, great beer.

Totally opposite. I don't like malty IPAs.

I really like (D)IPAs like Wipeout, Mongo, DRIPA etc.

I don't like (D)IPAs like Hercules, Titan etc.

Or "don't like" is wrong said, but defenetely prefer less malty IPAs. I still like some nice barley wines a lot and there is of course some exceptions.

patto1 is certainly one of the most renowned "beer guys" on this planet. His opinion carries a WHOLE lot of weight. He doesn't care much for IPAs. That's cool. I don't like banana flavored hefes. Beer is a varied and much splendored thing.

I had the Saranac White IPA last winter (Feb. 2012) while skiing in NY. I enjoyed it.

Below is what is posted on the Saranac website for this beer:

    “White IPA

    NOW AVAILABLE YEAR-ROUND!

Availability: 12 pack, 6 pack, draught

    Brewers Notes:

Saranac White IPA is a tasty innovative twist on a traditional IPA. We've taken a delicious American IPA bursting with Citra hops, and given it a whole new direction by adding the refreshing fruitiness of orange peel & coriander and the softening characters of wheat malt and oats. You'll notice the complex hop flavor you've come to expect in an IPA, balanced with the extraordinary bright flavor of a wheat beer. Cheers to twisting tradition!

    Beer Style: Hybrid IPA/Belgian White
Malt Selections: 2 Row Wheat Oats
    Hop Selections: Citra
    Color: Pale Straw-Hazy
    Mouthfeel / Body: Medium
Food Companions: Bleu Cheese, Poultry, Pork
    Alcohol By Volume: 6.0%
    Original Gravity: 14.8”

Is there a ‘new’ version of Saranac White IPA using Belma hops?

    Cheers!

    Yes, and no.

Shared a few offerings with a brewer from Saranac at TAP NY, showed us pics of their new pilot system, beautiful, we tasted one of the test batches using Belma in basically their white IPA. Don't know if I believe the backstory of that hop so won't pass it, but interesting flavors, really subtle and complex, and stunning in an IPA. Right now it is in one of the beers in their Summer 12 pak mix, but I don't recommend this beer it isn't one of their best, and Belma is not forefront in its flavor.

I agree about their White IPA, delicious!

Im finishing up school the last few months and been broke from it so have been drinking lots of cheap beer. But Ive noticed the more cheap beer I drink the more I crave a absurdly hoppy IPA. But I also love IPAs with more to it than over the top hops. As long as it is done well, and tastes great then I like them either way.

I'm in reverse. For whatever reason, as the weather warms I find myself craving, and therefore drinking, more big stouts. I did go on an epic Abrasive bender for a few months. Maybe that has somethingto do with it.

Starting to really appreciate the well balanced IPA as well. I've had plenty of the well acclaimed ones at this point and I'm constantly craving some Lunch or Sculpin.

I am a big IPA fan, but I think lagers can and do have excellent flavors. Subtlety is not indicative of boring or flavorless. I do agree that many people on here think traditional lagers lack flavor and are boring. I actually think that many newer craft beer drinkers get caught up in the over-the-top flavors and aromas. I believe most of these people will eventually get bored of these over-the-top flavors and will search for other things (maybe even outside of beer). Everything can get boring if you have it enough. Subtlety and balance are beautiful things, but when I drink IPAs, that is not what I am looking for.

The best IPAs are the super citrus and tropical fruit forward ones.
