So my partner in a BIF sent me a package which appears to be 49 lbs from the tracking number (must be a NICE box!). I believe the label fell off the package so it is now sitting in limbo. We called FedEx ground trace and now they keep calling me wanting to know what is in the box in order to match up tracking with an unlabeled box. At first i said collectible glassware and they kept prodding so i eventually said vintage beer bottles. Yeah yeah that was the first thing that came to mind since people hunt for old Surly Growlers so i thought it was realistic.

So my conclusion is they will not send me a box unless i tell them exactly what is in it since they need to verify which unlabeled box is indeed for me. Once they find out there is beer in there will they

    1) delivery it to me
    2) flag my address
    3) send it back to the shipper
    4) #$%#@^# what a bad situation to be in!!!!

so yeah, i left it up to the guy who sent it to me but just looking for advice. Is it better to just let this one go and consider it a loss? I would hate for my trading partner in the BIF to lose a 49 lbs box!

This completely sucks. I have no idea what they'll do, but I picked up the tip of writing the tracking number on the box in sharpie, just in case of something like this. Damn, again, this sucks. Hope it turns out favorable for you.

Any of those options are still a possiblity. Good luck, maybe I'll start writing the tracking #'s as well.
I've found the clear lable envelopes they give you to put on the box are a bad idea. It is better to tape the entire lable on to the box to create a smooth surface.

Nope it's not yours...I'm addicted to BIFS and am in 3 of them right now...lol. Although based off the latest guys clue it may be coming to me (MichigaN)

I generally slap the packing slip on and then tape it to the box. Either tape the Thermal sticker down or tape those clear plastic things down so they don't peel off.

Yeah i'm leaving the decision up to my partner who shipped it to me. Still a very crappy situation.

They shouldn't be asking you anything. Most of the talking should be with the shipper.

True. Maybe you don't know what is in the box....

I've noticed that a lot more people are sending me boxes that have the shipping label inside the box as well. Makes sense, as if the one outside is missing, they find a new label upon opening the box. Quick and easy solution, one that I may start using myself. Not foolproof, but as close as it gets next to writing tracking #s on important boxes.

What I always do is write the tracking # on the outside of the box with a sharpie. Label somehow gets lost, and that has everything they need.

Those clear packets practically have super glue on them though - I don't even know how they'd come off before the plastic ripped.

To the OP - anything could happen. If it makes you feel better though, there don't seem to be many stories out there about Fedex destroying beer. Broken bottles are usually either passed on to the recipient or returned to the sender. It sounds like you're kind of stuck telling them what it is - just play dumb and say it's a gift from a friend and he probably didn't know shipping beer was against policy (if they question it).

All my boxes addresses say Lost Traveler Hot Sauces and More on the return address.

That is the problem. If not attached perfectly flat a corner will come up and stick to anything it touches. Causing it to get pulled off and stuck to something else.
