Since it's Heady Topper, figured it deserved its own thread.

Eagle Provisions has what looks to be a couple of cases of Heady Topper. That said, selling it at $14/can.

    Let me repeat... $14/can.

So, you know, I passed. Not even sure why I bothered going into that place.

Best thing to do is for people to resist the urge and pass on these. They don't sell, price comes down in future or better yet they don't sell it any more.

I bet you they still sell out. Can't underestimate the power of hype.

Or maybe you can ask them to be a friend (not a fiend) of the craft beer community. That's criminal. I thought Shoreline asking $8.99 was thievery. (still do)

I'd buy one if I never had it. I'm sure plenty of people will buy it and that's fine.

I think it's crazy too, but clearly enough people disagree that they continue to be able to overprice even the priciest of local stores. I've stopped shopping there (though I'll pop my head in, hoping they've accidentally priced something sanely), but if it's working for them, good on 'em. I just their prices piss off enough people that they eventually have to start pricing more normally.

Maybe I'm spoiled, but my local gets us stuff we can't get anywhere else, and never bangs us over the head for it. To each his own, I suppose. But it's good to see people calling out the rip-off guys.

this is the same place that charges $30 for a bottle of abraxas, $100 for a 750 of cantillon, and $75 for a westy... not suprised at all but it's still insane.

I did some math for those of you tempted to buy a can of Heady for $14. The round trip distance from Brooklyn to Waterbury is approx. 660 miles. A car that gets 20 mpg will use 33 gals. of gas @$3.75 a gallon = $123.75 for gas. The case is $72 for a grand total of $195.75. So it's 14 cans @ $14 a can for $196 or 24 cans for $195.75
Yes, the ride is long, but it's beautiful ride and as far as I know, you can get 2 cases a person. Take a ride.

Although I am aware of its existence, I don't factor in the time value of money for what I consider pleasure trips.

I'm in the northern burbs so I don't have any history with Eagle provisions, however, if someplace consistently overprices, I avoid it. There are other purveyors with a conscience.

It's funny how this place is becoming legendary for their ludicrous pricing. I'm assuming these are bootleg cans that were picked up by some employee and trekked down to NYC?

I know of 2 bars in Brooklyn that sell HT for $12 a poke.
IMHO, Eagle's pricing of $14 a can is one place where they're not badly price gouging (in relation to market).

A place in Brewster charged $8 a can so I guess an extra 60 or so miles and being in Brooklyn are worth another $6 a can.

$14 a can is ridiculous no matter what the "market" for selling beer illegally is in brooklyn

Is it illegal though? Heady is licensed to be sold here, it just isn't.
