Wow! Just tried "X" beer. So disappointed, how can you even compare it to "Y"? "Y" is sooo much better. X does not live up to the hype.

Have you tried this years release of "X"? What the hell happened? This doesn't taste anything like the 2012 release. What a drop off in flavor. So disappointed. Hopefully next year's batch of "X" will get back on track.

That's absolutely true, IF the comparison actually calls out some of those elements. When it's just a "I tried this legendary beer last night and it SUCKED compared to my favorite beer. Anyone else agree, huh? Huh? Huh?" it doesn't do much to add to anyone's knowledge base. It just comes across as one of those people who has to tell you how much the great movie you just saw sucked so they can prove how much better, smarter, more insightful they are. That said, you're right. Nobody has to read nuthin' they don't want to.

Because nothing beats winning a competition in which you didn't have to do any work (except maybe do some driving).

People are bored so they post that stuff for amusement.

It all comes down to this - people are bored at work. That's how most of these threads come about.

    I wouldn't call mine down time - it's just I don't want to work time. [Self-employed].

In this case there are over 6,400 reviews on Pliny, it has a score of 100. Heady has over 3,400 reviews and also has a score of 100. What else do you need to know about these beers before you're going to buy one? All the comparison threads boil down to are silly arguments.
