Voodoo Brewing Company's 'Grande Negro Voodoo Papi' has a similar M.O. to Abraxas/Hunahpu.

"A special batch of BBVD brewed with maple syrup, whole Madagascar vanilla beans, and cinnamon then aged on ghost chili peppers for just the right amount of heat."

I wouldn't be surprised to see some New Glarus stuff land a Mexican Cake, maybe Serendipity plus something else nice.

Abraxas is the name of a demon/deity in Gnostic mythology. I found this out while watching Face-Off on Sci-Fi Channel. (Not the Cage/Travolta movie. Show where make up artists put their work to the test.)

Glad to see you enjoyed the beer so much

When I am in New York again I'll see if they still have them sitting around (very real possibility), and if not I'll be sure to grab more than 2 bottles next year! Also, if I see end of days I'll grab 2 in case you want one (but if not, more for me! ).

I'm with you and I have access to Abraxas not Hunah. I prefer Hunah over Abraxas by a long shot and even prefer it over BA Abraxas (but only slightly!).

Ah. Well, that makes more sense.

    that beer was absolutely phenomenal.
if it had a slightly thicker mouthfeel it would be up there with Apple Brandy Hunahpu!

You're probably right. I haven't had a regular Abraxas since the first batch. Did the new batch improve (for anyone who's had both)? I just thought the spices in the first batch were pretty muted and it was all cinnamon.
Whoa, let's not get carried away here. BA Abraxas is a legitimately awesome beer, one that I'll admit is worth the chase. But if you've got one, I'll happily send you a BA Huna (or a regular one) for it.

Haha I just tend to prefer the chocolate/vanilla to be dominant over the cinnamon/spice. BA Abraxas was fantastic and amazingly balanced, but just too much cinnamon/spice for me. If I made the trip to get the six bottles, I would've traded one to you for a BA Hunah in a heartbeat (assuming I hadn't traded them already!).

I have the 2011, but I haven't tried it yet. It's gonna taste different either way since it's been about a year and a half, so I can't vouch for the first batch or tell you if there's much variation. The difference I noticed between CCB and Perrenial is that I picked up a lot more of the chiles in Huna and they lingered a little more, whereas they weren't nearly as present in Abraxas and the cinnamon and vanilla showed up more. The difference could be that I had Huna right when it came out and I just had Abraxas a few days ago (it came out like 7 months ago.) My preference could very well be different if I had them both side by side today because that's still plenty of time for the beer to change.

regular Hunahpu hasn't been great since the 2011 vintage as the spice levels seem to have dropped off dramatically with the newer vintages. the newer ones are still good but it's just not the same beer it once was. that 2011 vintage, even now, still has a greater spice component compared to the fresher ones.

not crazy over the latest Abraxas vintage as the peppers have an almost vegetal quality I don't digg, though that may fade over time

Luchador En Fuego was pretty tasty, although all the adjuncts are pretty well integrated, so it might not have the kick you're looking for.
