You said you're in OC...just go park yourself at Beachwood for an afternoon/evening. The beer will be just as good (if not better), you'll eat ridiculously well, and you can save yourself an immense amount of time.

Like Xul said. Beachwood BBQ in LB. Next time they tap CitraHolic make a visit and try their CitraHolic. Close to Kerns Citra. But if you really want to experience the Citra then take the drive out to Kernville and spend the night. They have free camping along the kern River or you can spend 99 bones and your right next to the parking lot of KRBC. You might mention that you are visiting the brewery and they might cut you a $10 discount. I know we got the discount the last time we visited on Citra bottle release. Since they are not releasing bottles this time it wont be busy at all at the brewery. It's getting crazier every release. If your not there by 6 or 7am then you wont be getting any bottles. If if you do go this weekend then it will be nice to just kick back and enjoy some good beers with some good atmosphere at the brewery and surrounding area. They also have JO in bottles and may have something special on tap. But you have to make the effort for the drive to Kernville. And if you still want to go take the back highway up. It's a lot easier then coming from Bakersfield.

If you stay for a day or two, go to Mountain River Adventures if you're looking for something to do. They have rafting trips, stand up Paddle boards, mountain bikes, downhill skateboards, etc. John will take care of you.

Class X will be on as well. Tasty stuff. For no bottles, or growler fills, the trip isn't worth it for me. Citra is as good as the hype though.

Yeah, for no growlers or bottles, it's not worth the trip. But if you haven't tried it and looking to make a weekend out of it, it's well worth venturing out for. Both Class X and Citra are amazing.

I don't understand. What's so big about bottles? TRAADE WHALE BRO? Or aging them in your fridge? Draft >>>> any bottle ever.

The simple fact that when you leave that's it. Sentimentality is one thing, but reliving through the take home is another. I guess to me... it prolongs the experience.

Pretty much what Calidelphia said. I have never traded a Citra. Mainly because it's not a whale. People offer you pretty much $4$, as they should. And much like I wouldn't give up 2 Parabola's for a Black Tuesday or a Darkness - I'd rather enjoy the better beer itself. You really can't trade up when you have citra in hand.

As for why I would rather have a bottle or a growler to go home with... because the tap doesn't come with me. I like to take them to buddies who don't go up with me (due to work or what have you) and share with them.

It shouldn't be too difficult to understand, dooooooodz

I too prefer to hit up KRBC for Citra released in bottles. No more growler fills. But now I'll spend at least one night (preferably 2 nights) when I make the 3 1/2+ hour trip. Camping or motel it. The time at the brewery is really nice. Meeting up with BA'rs (new and old), having bottle shares and just chilling out for a couple hours drinking some fantastik beers. And it's nice to take a little time out nap and head back for the night scene with mostly locals inside the brewery. Maybe a band playing and more Citra & Class X. Maybe some Dirty Hippie. The problem nowadays is that you have to be in line early. Like getting there around 2 or 3am early till about 6 or 7am. Thats just to have any chance of getting your bottle allotment. When will all the Citra hype end? Hard to say. I've been up the last 5 releases and its just getting worse everytime. I too like to bring bottles (growlers when they did fills) back home to share with friends & family. I do not trade Citra. It's enjoyed by myself, friends and family. Although I did 1 trade last Citra release at the brewery with somebody who brought up bottles and cans of Hopslam and Heady Topper. It was an oppurtunity I could not resist. Never had Hopslam or Heady till then. Was it worth the trade? Yes. Like Citra is worth it for the trip to KRBC. Along with Alpine, Societe and Beachwood my favorite brewery's to hit up anytime for any reason.

I'm really interested in trying Citra. I don't know much about how the brewery works, but how often do they have batches? And, is it only available at the brewery or do they ever ship out to bottle shops?

They seem to make 2 to 3 batches per year. I believe they used to send very small amounts to SoCal in bottles and kegs but that's no longer. Lately only available at the brewery.

With Citra-holic at my fingertips, no need to make this painful trip anymore. As much as a love camping on lake Iz wifey doesn't cut me much slack on weekends away. I have to make them count, like DLD
