don't know about celebrities, but i've met lots of brewers.

the first thing that came to mind, honestly, was that i met rob tod from allagash in a bar 4 or 5 years ago, and was struck by how nice he was. very enthusiastic about beer, very gracious about people liking allagash and such. just seemed genuinely friendly and happy to be making stuff that people like.

Had the opportunity to get a brewery tour from Jim Koch out in boston. Really an incredible experience and it was really cool to hear him speak about his business. His passion showed right through and he really came across as a completely normal guy. I'll never forget that one

Have met and talked to several brewers at the Great Taste of the Midwest. I love how breweries tend to bring their best beers, and the brewmasters usually attend so you can talk to them rather than some nameless face that is pouring the beers. Best beerfest EVER! (based on my own, albeit limited experience)

Years ago-like 20, I met Pierre Celis at the Brooklyn Beer Fest when it was held under the bridge. He was simply wandering around in the crowd. I knew right away who he was, my buddy had not a clue.

Ran into Adam Avery in the parking lot of his tasting room in Boulder. When we told him we were on vacation in Colorado to visit our favorite breweries, he asked where we were from. We said Philadelphia and his eyes lit up and he said "That's the best beer town in the country." I later heard from some Philly brewers that Adam cuts a pretty wide swath when he visits the city, so I guess he meant what he said.

Photos taken with Michael Jackson and Stolarz; talking kids with Ray McNeill, talking beer with Greg Zaccardi talking to Jay Mission and realizing we probably had two of the few surviving Vernon Valley Brewry liter krugs and meeting Garret Oliver.

I would put these in the "chance encounters with really popular guys" category. I pulled into The Alchemist's parking lot in Waterbury, VT and talked very briefly with John Kimmich. About 90 minutes later, I pulled into Hill Farmstead's parking lot in Greensboro Bend, VT and talked very briefly with Sean Hill. I had some serious parking lot karma that day. Also, it was a snowy weekday, so no lines!!

While working one morning at the liquor store, I saw a two guys walk in. One was wearing a Capital shirt. I wondered over to them and talked beer for a bit. Right as I was getting ready to walk away, I mentioned I liked his shirt and that Autumnal Fire was liquid gold. He laughed and stuck out his hand. It was Kirby Nelson. After I got off work, I met him for a beer (I offered to pay, but instead he bought me several beers). Great guy!
