Let's see how it tastes out of the bottle before rushing to judgment...

We all know Petrol would never make it as a brewery with their QC, among other things. :grimacing:

It would have to be pretty exceptional at that price for me. Hope thats just store mark-up and/or the 4-pack will be more competitively positioned. More importantly, I hope the early reports are due to unmaintained lines and not a step back.

    $7 per 500mL on Valkyrie?

People... no one buy that shit. It hurts my brain that they're charging more per oz than any other bottled IPA... uh, EVER? I hate this new 500mL strategy from Southern Star, especially for something like an IPA that should be in larger volume packaging or priced to what the market expects.

Need I remind people that Pliny is $5 a bottle when stores are not gouging for it?

I can attest to this. It smelled like a mix of propane/methane and bitters. Didn't even finish an 1/8 of the glass.

PS: I really hope it's shitty. PPS: Send moar fresh 4-packs of $7.99 Pro-AM 2012 (or Valkyrie, whatever) to Austin and I'll buy the shit out of it. That beer kicks ass.

Why would you hope a beer is shitty? If it's because of price point, that is out of SS's control. They said they priced it to be $5 for a 500ml, if a store charges more that "hate" should be on the store. I'd prefer cans but I understand why they bottled some, they want a pretty little bottle you can share with friends.

If it's on the same level as ProAm 2012, $5 for 500ml bottle is just fine by me.

I bought a bottle from the Shell Station for $7, and I didn't find it awful. It certainly wasn't as hoppy as I would've liked, and probably not worth $7, but I enjoyed it.

I want it to be awesome. I loved the hell out of Pro-Am 2012. I will try it, and if it ends up not being worth the price, then I will vote with my wallet, and not buy nearly as much as I did of the 2012.

Unfortunate but I already told myself I wouldn't go hunting for it...maybe it'll show up somewhere and I can get one that way.

Has anyone seen Uncle Jacob's yet? I didn't see it at the Spec's in North Dallas I frequent, might check again after work today.

I did try Pimp by Ben+Clown Shoes and it was pretty decent. That was not at Petrol though.

Thanks for the tip on how to spend my money. I'll keep that in mind next time I drop $10-15 on certain JK, SA, Karbach, etc beers when there are other examples of the style that are cheaper per oz and equally as good IMO.

And no I don't think you need to remind any of us how much Pliny is. If you don't like it, don't buy it but to tell everyone else what to buy, call the beer "shit", and hope it tastes bad just because you don't like the price or the taste is, well...I won't state it here to keep the thread from getting deleted and myself banned.

Edit: Not to mention you've made no indication of even trying it yet. So your statements are strictly based on what a few other people have said and not your own tastes.

It is. Golden Retriever Pub in Magnolia has a keg of it right now. I went by and had 4 last night. It's everything ProAm 2012 was. It was so good to taste it again. If it sucked down at Petrol, then it wasnt the beer, thats all i'm going to say, because I was in beer heaven last night drinking it.

So has anyone tasted a bottle of Valkyrie to confirm that it tastes the same of diff from Pro AM? All I have read was the tap at Petrol sucked. I'm not going to buy an overpriced 500ml to find out myself, especially when fresh Endeavour and Hop Delusion (very soon) 22's are right next to it.

Had a taster at Nobi yesterday. I didn't get any off flavors. Never had the Pro-am.
