I've enjoyed it the most with about a year of age on it

I can't drink Old Rasputin - what are you going to do?

Taste is a funny thing - I probably wouldn't purchase Speedway again, but I'll buy as much FIS as I can.

If you still have bottles of it left, this is the perfect situation to age them. If you know you don't like them on the fresh side, let them sit for a year and see what you think then. It's better than just drain pouring them now. I'm actually aging the rest of my FIS. While I like it enough when fresh, it's borderline too sweet for me, so I'm going to see what some age does.

I originally did this for FBS after not loving it fresh, which is when most people say to drink it because the coffee fades. But I found I prefer FBS with at least 6 months on it (too much of an aggressive, unbalanced mess when fresh IMO).

There's a very strong ashy flavor in Founders' RIS that you don't get in many other big beers like that. It was strange to me at first, but then I started to warm up to it.

I'd say you didn't age them..I find it to be on the roasty, acrid sort of side of stouts. Age mellows that out.

For the big beers, I think there are "need age" beers vs. "can handle age" beers...and with FIS...for MY tastes..it needs the age.

Dude, I'm with you. I found Founders Imp Stput to be a bit disappointing. Boozy and overly roasted to the point of excessive char notes. It's not bad per say, just not what I would expect from such a renowned brewery. You're not alone bro!

I personally love it and know people who share my opinion. Maybe this one is just not for you.

That's why beer is so great. It's a very unique thing.

Besides, Founders Breakfast Stout is more than enough to fill this gap.

I may be the only person in the universe who feels this way, but I think that about FBS. I really don't like that beer, but I, like you, love stouts in general. There's something about too much coffee in FBS that turns me off. Seems to make the taste "thinner"? Really do love FIS, though...

i used to love it, but not so much anymore. too much 'powdered cocoa' flavor for me.

    Why can't I (insert anything)?

    1) Because you're doing it wrong.
    2) Because it just isn't for you.

I'm in the same boat. I dont enjoy FIS. It's definitely one of the more bitter imperial stouts ive had. BA's for some reason prefer more bitter imperial stouts. I'll take a narwhal any day over FIS.

Exactly, FIS is my top 3 non barrel aged stout, where I don't really care for Old Raspy

I don't know, but a Magic Schoolbus journey to your taste buds might be able to figure out your tragic pallet flaws.

I'm not a fan of hoppy stouts either. It's not a big deal, I'm sure that Founders will be ok.
