Friday Re-rate night as usual. Great beer alll night. KBS is best when fresh for sure. Raspy is still amazing, and a fun fact is that there is Julian Bottle dating on the bottom of the bottle(mine was 6/3/2011). Sublimely has great robust malt balance, and balanced hop flavors. My first ever rating was Sublimely self righteous too.

Progressive Metal album of the year so far, I am still listening to this album two days later. It is going to be tough to top this. I think Gojira and Between The Buried and Me have a chance to beat it(comparing previous releases of course. Gojira is rolling out in June, BTBAM in the fall or late fall), but it is going to be a great feat.

Might be finishing off with a Nektar Mead Zombie Killer or some New Holland Double Barrel whiskey

I live in SD and find Stone incredibly average. Yeah yeah - big name in the movement - if it weren't for them - yes I know. SSR is an outstanding beer and I wish Stone did more year rounds this good.

Well it is all your opinion there; but Stone IPA, Ruination, IRS, aged Old Guardian, and Arrogant Bastard all got top marks over here. In fact all of their anniversary beers and collabs don't even come close to those normal releases for me.

Finished the rest of an AleSmith Wee Heavy I had opened way earlier in the day. Closing the night off with a bottle of GI Bramble Rye. Tastes like a berry liqueur stout. Def like it, but it's taking a long while to sip on.

Palate Wrecker kicked my ass tonight. Don't mistake me, I'm not referring to it's hop intensity, but rather when I took one of my sips of it, it went down wrong and I immediately started coughing and a bunch of it went up through my nose. It was not pleasant at all. It was like having chlorinated pool water shot up your nose with a super soaker. I started tearing up and my eyes are still red.

    Good beer, though. For sure

IRS - not a year round! Agree it's excellent. OG - not a year round! Agree it's excellent! IPA/Ruination - good yes - but when you live where Sculpin/PtE/Alpine IPA's flow like water you don't touch them.

    Ruination 6 pack = $15.99
    Sculpin 6 pack = $15.99

    Which would you buy?

It's a Sierra Nevada night tonight, while I watch Formula 1 qualifying. Picked up a 6pack of 2012 Bigfoot, and a 4-pack of Torpedo.

Sculpin, but these seem really high. Over here it $11.99 for Ruination and $13.49 for Sculpin. I'd still pick Sculpin though, I love that stuff

Damn - I live 12 miles from the brewey. LOL! AT the brewery it's $14.99 for the six pack! My $15.99 quote was for a local store. I can get 5 gallon kegs for $99 - and 1 gallon growlers for $28 so I guess it's all good.

Apparently San Diego sunshine tax extends to beer.

Started things off right with a Sam Adams Summer (in April) at goddamn Wing Stop.

This is a good point, but I have enough IRS on hand that it might as well be year round for me . Of course I don't live out there so I dont have access to the IPA fountain so I do what I can. However Sculpin is indeed fricking incredible, and now that Ohio has access I pick up the good stuff when I visit my parents. I would probably pick Sculpin over Ruination. But they are pretty different in flavor profile and hop assertiveness, so it would depend on my craving for either balanced IPA or hop bombed DIPA.

Prior to Sculpin going year round - Ballast Points year rounds just sucked. Same with Stone. Their seasonals KILL though - especially with BP's Sea Monster, Dorado, Victory at Sea, Tongue Buckler etc.

    Yellow Tail?
    Black Marlin Porter?
    Big Eye?
    Calico Amber?

    Who gives a shit.

That's my point. I wish Stone and BP would kill all their mains and just make their awesome beers year round. I guess that would kill their main customer base though.

I dig the black marlin tho, especially if its barrel aged. The other three I will not touch unless I'm drinking them for free.

I got a growler of the BA BMP - meh - wife loved it though. Of course that same night I got 3 growlers - the other 2 were Sea Monster and Tongue Buckler! Rough night!

Imagine though - a new person drinks a Yellow Tail. "wow what an average beer". "Ballast Point is average" Little would they know the insane beers they produce.

This happened to me about 4 years ago.. with yellow tail and big eye. Picked up a case of both and for the price was not pleased..

Went to Ballast Point three times during my recent two week stay in San Diego. Big Eye is much better than Sea Monster and Tongue Buckler, and when you consider the price difference between it and Sculpin, Big Eye gets the nod.
