I heard the same. If it's priced right, I'll buy it.

Just had my first ( and only) Valkyrie. I wouldn't call it a drain pour - just not worth another purchase. Still have a few cans of Proam left and, even with age, much better.

Did they ever say it was supposed to be a rehash of ProAm2012?

From a SS Facebook post answering a question on June 5th.....

" Yes, the Valkyrie(which is the same recipe as the Pro-AM 2012 DIPA) will be canned. We know quite a few folks who are looking forward to this one. Cheers!"

I think we all expected it to be that...

I am not sure what is going on with this whole Valkyrie thing. I had four of them the day it was released at Golden Retriever in Magnolia, and it was everything Pro Am was. But then i had a glass at Red Brick Tavern in Conroe and it was a lil off, not as good as it was at Golden Retriever. Then I had it at the brewery this weekend and it was what I tasted at Golden Retriever and really good. But then I had a 500ml bottle of it last night and it was the same taste that I had at Red Brick where it tasted off. I wonder if they had it in two diff fermenters and one of the batches cooked went wrong that went into one of the fermenters.

Yes, they posted it online that it is the same thing several times.

That is interesting, I have noticed a huge discrepancy in reception of Valkyrie here and on untappd, so different fermenters or something could explain that

Their cooker is so small and their fermenters are huge, so it take several cookings to fill a fermenter. Something could of goofed up with one of those batches being cooked.

I don't think there's any problem with the beer. Obviously their QA tested the batch to make sure it was up to the right specs and tasted as they intended it before selling it for $7/bottle.

I actually think a more reasonable (and less sarcastic) answer would be problems with sourcing ingredients.

I find its worse for IPAs than a good snifter.

Ingredient sourcing surely could be a problem but repeated assertions that the recipe is the same suggests that is not the case although it was my first thought as well.

Based on the descriptions of quality drift it is more probable that there was excessive oxygen pick up somewhere in the brewing or packaging process. That would be the most probable explanation for a once bright and hoppy beer becoming dull and bland. The bottling line is a likely culprit but if the same problem exists on tap then the problem exists somewhere pre-packaging.

Deep Ellum IPA has changed their ingredients several times due to hop shortages... while at still being called the same beer, which is why I bring it up. People noticed that one as well.

As you said, people complained about kegs as well... so it's either ingredients or a different/wrong brewing cycle.

I had it on tap at Nobi and liked it just fine...

I did pick up a bottle today at HEB.. along with Hop Delusion.... I'm going to drink them sometime this weekend and see how they shape up... hoping to find a bottle of Enjoy By to also directly compare.. but alas.. I probably won't be able to.

Drinking one now. Bottle. Very metallic and bitter. None of fresh hopiness we found in the Pro Am. Different beer. Like a first run for a new brewery. Sad.

I've had two out of the bottle from two different heb's, and both were drain pours for me. Smelled and tasted old, musty, and just straight up terrible. Very dissapointed with this go around.
