Agreed, the one beer that I had that was just too bitter was Moylans "Hopsickle". I literally puckered my face when I drank that.

I agree with another poster that in the IPA/DIPA category, I have never had too much hops. However, I have had other styles that I thought had too much. The Avery Brewing Joes Pilsner comes to mind.

You would have to drop the malt or cut it significantly to make it painfully hoppy. I've had some local brew pubs do this and it sucks. Commercially brewed stuff is fine even the triple hopped up stuff.

I'll echo other people's sentiments here, Devil Dancer is more too boozy than too hoppy (in past years) but give it a year, year and a half and it's delicious.

If its an IPA, there is no such thing as too hoppy, and I think Palate Wrecker is crazy delicious (though inconsistent). If it is a different style, but it tastes like an IPA, it is too hoppy.

Too bitter? Sure, there are lots of unbalanced, harsh, overly bitter beers. Too much hop flavor/aroma? No such thing.

Once people start dying, we will know what "too much hops" means.

Maybe they are the bee's knees and your palate is the wrong one?

Or maybe, you know, everyone has different tastes, so there is no such thing as too hoppy for some people and you shouldnt get all upset over what other people like.

    I doubt it.

Knee Deep's Simtra is labeled a Triple IPA. Their Hopoholic was marketed as a quad 4x IPA.

Only beer I've ever said was too hippy was Stone 10th Anniversary Ruination. Was almost like eating a hop, and if you've ever tried to eat a hop, you know what I'm talking about.

slam.......I understand and I agree with you but I am a technical style nerd. And by no way did I get upset at what people like or really care, just wanted to express my opinion that I am sick of overtly hoppy beers and it would be nice if there's was more of a technical consideration to malt/hop style balance. Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks (just no strokes for Mr. Horton the bike shop owner).

Also I would wholeheartedly agree with nickfl - "Too bitter? Sure, there are lots of unbalanced, harsh, overly bitter beers. Too much hop flavor/aroma? No such thing."

Yeah but at 1000 IBU I question the use of the hops and would potentially consider it as a waste of good hops.

I have enjoyed munching fresh hop flowers. What a treat. I am always interested in the full spectrum and many great statements have been brewed pushing the limits. Keep going!

My Bf is super into Drake's Denogginizer...In my opinion it is the devil...I am not sure if it is on par with palate wrecker, but when he made me taste each I thought the same thing "damn that's bitter"

I think it's akin to liking spicy foods. What is spicy for one is not always for me. I love spicy. I love some pretty hopped beers too, but I do like enough malt backbone to go with it.

Sipping on a Hop Stoopid now, and I'll be honest this one tastes odd. I'll let you guys know the date when I'm done with the bottle
