The 6% threshold seems to be a real seperator from most of the world class beers to a whole lot of so/so beers in same styles. So what are the truly worthy beers you enjoy under 6%. I tossed out Lambics because they are a little different beast from most of the other beer styles out there and most all of them are very light in ABV.

As long as HF Arthur is under 6%, sign me up for that beer all day, every day.

Sam Smith (numerous ones) I have ranked over a 4.5 rating that are under 6%. Flag Porter, Prima Pils, New Belgium Summersault Blonde Ale, Saranac Lake Effect Lager, Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout.

I haven't had it yet (no distro in MD), but I'm sure Gumballhead will get lots of love.

    Really?

One of the most flavoursome beers I ever drank was 3.2%, and so many other of my favourites are under 6%. No wonder most Americans are so pleasantly surprised when they try properly cellared and served cask ale.

Gumballhead, Prima Pils, Bitter Brewer, ST Live, basically everything Sammy Smith makes, Abita Strawberry Lager, Kellerweis, Sierra Porter, Anchor Steam, Anchor Porter, Weihenstephaner/Paulaner/Hacker-Pschorr/Ayinger/Franziskaner Hefe (and the dunkels), Florida Cracker, Blanche de Chambly, 1809 Berliner Weisse, Sweet Action, Liefman's Cuvee Brut, Rogue Chocolate Stout, LH Milk Stout, Bell's Smitten, Bell's Porter and NG Raspberry Tart.

That's just the beers I've reviewed or ticked as hads on here. There are tons and tons of other great beers at 6% or less.

Sorry, but I think that's a ridiculous statement. It's only on places like BA where everyone is obsessed with high ABV beers and thinks lower ABV beers aer inferior.

The vast majority of British cask beer is under 6%, as is 95% of German beer. Plenty of both are "world class".

As for examples, Harvey's Mild and Augustiner Helles are two of my favourite beers. I could list a whole string of Dark Milds and Helles and Dunkles.

Many beers by Half Acre are under 6%, and they generally are great. Pony Pilsner is my favorite. Edel Pils and Hometown Blonde from New Glarus are also excellent.

Nowadays most of my favorites are under 6 or just over. Still enjoy a huge beer as a slow sipper, but with warm weather here a low ABV, refreshing, and packed with flavor beer is the ticket.
