Freetail's prices for their sours are pretty much on par with what JK is proposing and I don't see people bitching about their pricing.

Opinions that I've gathered from the SW forum. "I want our beer laws to be like other states. Wait this will cost me more money, I don't like that. Driving to breweries is too much driving. Driving to the store is too much driving, can you just ship the beer directly to me? The key is under the door mat and there is a glass and bottle opener on the counter. If you could pour it for me that would be great too"

Also general question for the group b/c this has been bugging me lately. Can anyone think of any other breweries/brewpubs that sell guest taps from other breweries? I can't think of any other place that I have been to that does that. It seems to be very much a TX thing and very much a Freetail and Jester King thing

Minneapolis Town Hall, Russian River, Pizza Port, and The Bruery (at least back when Provisions existed. The tasting room also happened to have a guest tap when I went) are immediate examples off the top of my head.

That would explain it I've never been to any of those places. I knew Portsmith Brewing had Smuttynose on tap but they are the same company.

In Austin: Draught House, Pinthouse, Black Star, Uncle Billy's, Whip-In, Lovejoy's (when they were still open)

The only out of state one I can think of right now is the Oscar Blues location in Longmont. Not sure if they brew on location or just get beer from the production facility down the street but they have a selection of other CO breweries on tap.

Because this thread isn't about Freetail. There's arguments that can be made but it makes more sense to have that argument in its own thread.

Anybody who didn't realize the recent changes would make beer more expensive to drink at the brewery compared to the glass + samples + tour system is either not thinking or delusional. The whole point was to make it easier for breweries to sell their product to customers. The same is true in a lot of states that already permit brewers to sell for on-premise consumption. I can't remember a brewery that I've been to where the prices in house were the same or more than prices at local bars and that includes several that sell sours. There probably are others out there with a similar business model.

I've seen a few. I'm not sure how many states even permit that.

I don't think they brew at the restaurant location in Longmont (maybe still in Lyons) but Breckenridge does the same thing with its multiple Alehouse locations around Denver.

I saw it in a brewpub in Asheville, NC where they were selling other peoples beer. I believe it was Asheville Brewing Company

If there's a Houston bar that's selling JK on tap, tell me where! If a Houston bar's serving out of JK's bottle conditioned bottles, tell me that bar that's not marking those babies up high price! I know a few places with it in bottles and they're expensive! I'm fine with the prices JK set at their brewery.

Downtown Saucer recently had Le Petit Prince on draft, and Salt Lick/Censored was on cask @ HM & draft @ D&T. Can't think of any beyond that. Definitely a rarity.

Just got back from a weekend trip to San Francisco and got in late last night. People will always complain about things. We all do it. We should be thrilled about the change in the beer scene here. Case in point...went to an awesome bottle shop in the Pacific Heights area of San Francisco and the owner gushed when I told him I was from Texas. Had awesome things to say about Jester King in particular and that Funk Metal flew off the shelves when it arrived. We have a brewery in our own backyard that brews beer people are clamoring for and trading to get.

Jeff, keep up the awesome work and can't wait to come visit. AR is fantastic and looking forward to the party.

Pretty much every brewery I went to in Colorado last month had at least a couple guest taps.

JK could still have guest taps... they just won't be special beers that don't have label approvals in TX. Shelton Brothers took great care of them over the last few years.

The way I understand it is that under a brewpub license they can no longer serve beer from other breweries period. This is also what I heard from Freetail as it may effect there Realtail day they do with Real Ale every year.

Only if the brewpub chooses to self-distribute, which JK obviously could do. Fortunately, Stanley's can have all the "guest taps" they want.

Retail sales from a brewpub are not "distribution", BTW, so Freetail could either use a distributor or just continue to sell retail and theoretically that wouldn't change RealTail.
