Okay, we've all seen the post that reads something like "What's the next Pliny Killer", but this topic actually got me thinking. What if these two beers are actual head-and-shoulders above the others and there are no beers on the radar to take the top place? Could the "killer" actually be a blend?

For intance to "kill" Heady, could you mix a combination of beers from various breweries? Imagine something with Pliny, Zombie Dust and a third beer for example. Let your minds wander and be creative. I don't mix beers, but if anyone has any REALLY GOOD suggestions, I just might try!

I wonder what equal parts of Pliny, Zombie Dust, Flower Power, and Lunch would taste like?

Alpine and KRBC both make pliny/heady killers, as do many other breweries.

But if you're looking for a good blend, Hopslam and Nugget Nectar into other IPAs are a good place to start.

Once the development of some of these new hops they are trying to grow through trial and error, is successful and reaches the market, we will have the building blocks for a better beer. Of that I am sure.

Step 1: Brew beer with Conan yeast, tons of galaxy and citra hops, and corn sugar (or whatever it is they put in abrasive), and make it have a nice dry finish.

    Step 2: Win.

    Or, just drink Galaxy Unicorn.

Sounds like Heady/Pliny+1 rather than Heady/Pliny-killer.

Probably because fewer people have tried them. I like Heady better, but Alpine and Kern Citra are very close (and better than Pliny, in my opinion).

I love Pliny, but I'll ABSOLUTELY agree with you on Kern River Citra. It's one of the best DIPA's I've ever had and although it's highly rate, it's still underrated IMO. As for DIPA's, Founders Double Trouble is also underrated.

Oh, I agree. Definitely not hating on Pliny, it's one of my top rated beers.

Before, I get hammered on the Citra comment - I KNOW IT'S GOT A 100 SCORE. What I'm referring to is that it's ranked in the low 20's.

Fresh Citra from KRBC is as good as it gets, but most people will never get to try it. Looking forward to their expansion and the rumored (from staff) can release of Citra to follow.

I'm with you. I think most folks that have had it would agree it should sit in the top 5. It's just most folks haven't had it, or, they traded for it way after it fell off. I still see ISOs for Citra fairly regularly.

You could probably take Lunch off the list, since Pliny already has that covered.

I kinda thought about it the other night not about beating ZD or Pliny but i was drinking a GL Lake Erie Monster then switched to a DFH 60 min. If i was going to make a mix beer it would be: 1/3 Lake Erie Monster, 1/3 DFH 60 Min & 1/3 Bells Two Hearted. I have no idea how it would work but those are some of my favorites.

    sample size, etc.

that said, i think heady and pliny are pretty close to #1. double sunshine is the best if you ask me, but i haven't had all the best on the west coast.

preference-wise, by the way, for me the best is hill farmstead or NEBCO. their single and double IPAs whip the hell out of everyone in terms of my individual palate. "objectively" though, double sunshine is flawless, overdelivering on every promise in every area. if it doesn't meet-or-exceed your expectations, you're wishing for some other kind of beer than DIPA.

re: your question, this shit is all preference. which is subjective. soooo......

I do not believe that mixing together all of one's current favorite beers will necessarily produce one's new favorite beer.

    EDIT: THIS THREAD IS SILLY.
