If you're on the east coast, you should be reaching for the delicious German Pilsener that is Elm City Lager from New England Brewing Co.!

Definitely good choices. I really like the Stiegl, too; it leans a bit Vienna-ish, slightly amber with some toasty malt complexity. And I believe it comes in cans, which is always a plus with these types of beer.

I'm still waiting on the Troegs Sunshine, myself. Also a big fan of Sly Fox Pikeland Pils

I enjoyed the Sixpoint Crisp when it first came out last year; I even served a bunch of it at my Father's Day party. Unfortunately, having it in that context didn't do any favors for the beer. After a few in a row it took on an annoyingly sweet, cloying quality. I just can't have that one any more.

My Antonia is a great pilsner. I know it's not a pilsner but Victory Summer Love is great for this heat!

I think I've seen Rothaus' Tannenzäpfle in Whole Foods, but I could be mistaken. +1 to that recommendation, that's a good one.

People may lay into me on this one, but I like the Wernesgruener Pils from ALDI. Plus at $5.99 for 6 it's hard to go wrong.

Wish I could tell you for sure but I sort of have this feeling they would be hard to find in the States.

The American ones cannot touch the german ones, but freshness is always an issue, just go to germany if you want to drink pilseners or if you can find a fresh brown 6 pack of wuerzbuerger hofbraeu get it.

Live Oak Pilz! Decoction mashed, and open fermented. If anyone in the US knows how to make a proper Pilsner, it's these guys.

yeah there are a few us breweries that can do it well, but they don't have the imported malts and hops or the time-tested recipes.

does live oak use them, i know they are imported but many times american brewers will not use 100% imported ingredients.

According to their website they use imported Czech and German malts

well that is part of the reason why they are so good. There are still hindrances that all american breweries haven't solved yet in pilsener brewing.

I think the Goldbrau is the one that comes in cans (though I may be wrong about that); at any rate, I find the pils very close to its Czech cousins with a nice spicy bitterness from the Saaz hops and (at least when I had it) a noticable freshness.

Local boys Olde Mecklenburg brew a delicious pils (IMO). They use exclusively Weyermann malt from Bamberg and German Hallertau hops (they also do a single decoction IIRC). They were aiming for a Northern German pils, but to my palate hit more of a Southern German note. At any rate, when ultra fresh (which they ensure it is by not distributing outside of the greater Charlotte area), the stuff is magic. I have to drive 100+ miles each way to get it, but when I do I usually pick up a 50 l keg for the kegerator.
