I'll believe it when I see it...or don't see it. This is what one of the brewers told me about one of their last releases, only to find it a few weeks later on the shelf.

Sorry but there really is no such thing except maybe the brewery only R&D's or their anniversary beer.

Was there today and bought 5 bottles. Plenty left. In my opinion, best BA Boris yet.

I guess you will just have to wait and see then. I was told from several different people that they will sell this at the brewery only. So you are correct. We will see.

You missed out heavily then on the Royale. It was PHENOMENAL. Seriously, best beer I've had from them, and not close, but by a long long way.

Eh. Being from Indiana, I would have had to trade for it. And I don't trade.

Do you go to events? I'm sure someone probably along the way could have brought one for an IP trade...

This is what I heard from my friend who lives near brewery and picked some up. They told him directly that it was only gonna be a brewery release.....for what its worth.

    Two case limit per person??

That tells me they have tons, unless it sells out at the brewery I can see this hitting distro.

I think what you're noticing in bourbon vs. irish whiskey or scotch barrel aged beers (and as regards bourbon vs. irish whiskey or scotch generally) has to do with the barrels use. In order to be termed bourbon, the alcohol has to be aged in new charred oak barrels - being first-use barrels, they impart the most flavor to the alcohol, which is why good straight bourbon has a lot of vanilla, oak, and caramel flavors.

On the other hand, irish and scotch whiskey don't have the same requirement, meaning they often use second hand barrels (retired from American bourbon in a lot of cases), sherry casks, and the like. So what that means is that when you get a beer aged in bourbon barrels, that's the second liquid hitting the barrel, resulting in (usually) a more pronounced barrel flavor. If it's aged in irish or scotch whiskey barrels, it could be the third or fourth use of those barrels, so there's probably not as much going on there. That would also account for why you get a good barrel flavor from 'virgin' oak barrels and wine barrels.

If you're interested in learning more, here's some good articles on the differences:

Except that they are opening a tasting room in 2 weeks and will sell any remaining bottles for in house. I was very cautious about this being called a "brewery only" release given the fact Hoppin' Frog has said stuff to that extent before, but I was assured by several people who work there that it is indeed something they have zero intent of releasing to distribution regardless of how much was sold at the release. If they do, they will get tons of shit for it, from myself included.
