I saw this in the store today, and wondered if anyone has tried it yet? I remember having it in 2010, and 2011. I still have 3 bottles in the cellar (2011), and contemplated a comparison to see if there was a noticeable difference. I had it the first time on tap as an 11oz pour at a local bar, and then we got some for a couples night and drank it (5 oz per person) with a tiramisu dessert. I recall it tasting of toasted marshmallows, and was cloyingly sweet. I have been hesitant to open another one for 2 years, as the sweetness was overpowering. I see on the stbcbeer.com website that it's a yearly June release...

Any comments on the new version, or comparisons? Same recipe, different year? New bottle, anyway...

I don't like this as much as say Choklat or Mokah but I enjoy it. It's the sweetest of the bunch for me so a four ounce pour is about perfect as a dessert beer.

I don't really think of it as a re-release since it's been part of the Blackwater Series for a few years now. I wish wish wish they would package it in smaller bottles...maybe those XS ones that Rogue uses?? Or the small cans that 21st Amendment uses for LowerDaBoom? It's delicious but I seriously need like 5 ounces and I'm good. Also, like many I upset that they kept that and got rid of Jahva and Mokah, which were far superior

No more Jahva or Mokah. :slight_frown:

    From BeerStreetJournal...

For those that were in love with the coffee and chocolate stylings of Southern Tier’s(Lakewood, NY) Mokah and Jahva, their have been discontinued indefinitely.
Mokah, the brewery’s coffee/chocolate blend usually ships in April. Jahva – the coffee stout Southern Tier has been brewing since 2005 usually arrived in March. Their retirement will make way for other entries in the Blackwater Series in the near future.

First time I had it, last year, I drank about 4oz, and poured the rest down the drain - just too sickeningly sweet. Filled a growler of it yesterday for a tasting this weekend, and they guy gave me a taste - still sweet, but seemed much more drinkable. Maybe just a change in my palate, but based on this completely unscientific test, it seems that this years is a little less sweet than last years.

I liked it. It's basically liquid butterscotch. Wouldn't recommend trying to down a whole bottle yourself. Would be like eating too much candy on Halloween.

I also wish they would release it In 12oz bottles. I would still split it, though.

Love all the blackwater series so quite disappointed in this announcement. Creme brulee has always been the perfect mixer for me to add to my stouts and porters to take them to different levels.

It's a tasty dessert. I like splitting a bottle between at least three people.

I wonder what new Blackwater beers we will see. I didn't really care for Plum Noir. Hopefully they discontinue that one...

I love choklat, but since I don't like creme brûlée the dessert, its hard to like this. I'm not knocking the beer though, its just not my kind of taste.

Plum noir is better than it seemed because it needs to be at proper temperature. Most beers are good right out of the fridge but not that one. That one smooths as it warms and all the chocolate flavor deepens. 48-50 degrees. That's not straight out of the fridge.

Last I heard diacetyl is a flaw in beers...
Well, at least in these levels...

I sipped mine over a long period of time, and it definitely improved as it warmed up, but the beer was still not that impressive to me. Not a bad beer, but not one I would buy again at over $10 a bottle.

I had a three or four year old bottle of it last year and it tasted the same as it did fresh; just as sweet. I don't think it changes or improves too much with a few years on it.

I personally like it, though I always ranked it third behind Choklat and Mokah. Not something I'd drink a lot, but once a year is nice. I'd guess it is the same recipe just with the updated Blackwater Series label.

I had no problem taking down a 22 by myself. It's not something I would want often, but I also don't have a large milkshake every day either. Doesn't stop me from finishing one by myself when I have one. I guess people on here just absolutely can't ingest anything sweet.
