Stopped in Max's Taphouse in Fells Point, Baltimore tonight and saw a poster for this event next weekend. Anyone been to one of the earlier five? Good time? I'm working out a scheme on how to get back down to Baltimore and, more precisely, how to get back.

Yes, I've been to most of the previous ones. The selection in the past was outstanding, with lot's of great and rare stuff. No way to predict what they'll have this year, but in the past they've had gravity kegs of German stuff, aged kegs of Ten Fidy and Stone RIS, vintage barrels of Big Foot, etc. Based on past experience, it would not surprise me at all if they have some lunch, sculpin, parabola and BCBS on tap as well.

Typically Casey comes out with the final tap list the week prior to the event, so more than likely I'll get a copy later today or tomorrow. I'll try to post it on this thread as soon as I receive it.

The middle of the page has a base list of stuff that will be on tap. The site and FB should be updated later in the week.

Always a good time. Not as crowded as 72Hrs and the beer selection is always great as usual. There will be 30 drafts Fri., 30 more drafts Sat. and 20 more added Sun. There are currently about 45 listed on Max's webpage which are consistent with the last update I got from Casey. Casey Hard (cellar master) puts on numerous of these fests (Belg., German, Hop, Italian etc.) each year, each one with spectacular draft lists and talking to Casey over the last couple months about R&O I'm not sure I've ever seen him more excited about what he's been able to get for this Fest. Looking forward to it. See ya there. Also the Italian Fest at Max's in July is becoming one of my favorites.

I don't think this is on BA, but a distributor brought this to Where the Wild Beer Are last month in Brooklyn...it was pretty interesting, and better than the base beer.

Wish I still lived down in DC!

I'll be there Friday for a quick beer or 2. Any thoughts on what to get since I have limited time?

Yeah, I can't think of what to get. Too lazy to look all of these up. I will probably get Plastic Man, Brunch, and maybe the Spring Migration (don't feel like buying a whole bottle). However, the Ola Dubh 21 sounds good.

See ya upstairs Sat., the Alvinne Wild West is very good, but I've been able to find bottles in Balt. so I'll pass on that and the Grey Jacket is just so so, but other than that lots to try. Looks like it's going to be typically great weekend at Max's.

Ok, how do I get on the mailing list? I didn't see anything on their site about joining one. I'm assuming the special 50 person event is mentioned in the recent e-mail. How much is it and what does it all entail? Also, is it still open?

Go to the website contact link, send an email asking to be put on the email list. The slots for Sat. bottle event probably were filled in 10 min or less. Never hurts to ask when ur there. Usually these start at 10 am, always great to start a Max's Fest at 10 in the am yikes, but with this one at 1 Sat afternoon there may be some no-shows, you never know.

Just go to the website and use the contact function. Tell them you want to be added to the email list. You can also try leaving your email address with the bartender, but that's less reliable (they get busy and notes sometimes get lost).

As for the special tasting, I can't answer your question per se, but I assume it's long since full. Casey usually sends out a special invite for events like this to those folks who are currently on the email list. I've gone to several similar events in the past (they typically have one or two special tasting events during 72 hours of Belgium), and usually if you don't send back your reservation request within 15 minutes of the invite, you're out of luck. With a beer list like the one posted by CaptFrothy, I guess you can see why.

One last thing Gillagorilla. You sound like you're pretty into the Maryland/Baltimore craft beer scene, so here's a suggestion. Next time you stop by Max's, be sure to introduce yourself, and make it a point to say hello to the staff every time you go. Be a frequent customer, be friendly and well behaved, and be sure to always remember to tip your bartender well. If you can do all those things (which in my mind isn't all that difficult), then not only will you be getting all future emails from Max's, but in a case like this where you unfortunately didn't get around to making your reservation for the special upstairs event in a timely fashion, there's a good chance Casey will let you in anyway, if you politely ask him if there might be room for one more person. The staff at Max's are pretty personable, and they don't mind doing favors for those who they think of as friends. So make yourself a friend gillagorilla! Cheers. :-)

I'll be in town for this from Indiana... Do we know EXACTLY the list for Friday? As that is the night I will be there. Or is it just going to be a handful from the List above.. Awesome list BTW. I will be happy with anything from the list. Just wanted to know as to maybe have a gameplan going in Friday night. But if not no biggy!
