What's going on with Sierra Nevada's freshness?

I am very disappointed. Summerfest is one of my favorite beers. Since March I have been regularly checking 3 or 4 liquor stores for the first shipment. Towards the end of May I finally found some six 6-packs but they were bottled in the first week of March. A couple days later a different store got some six packs and they were the same bottling date. Then a week or 2 later a different store got 12 packs in from the same bottling date. I went to a local big box liquor store a couple of days ago and they said they haven't even got the beer in yet, let alone the canned 12 packs I was searching for. I have bought a six pack and a twelve pack so far but the age on them really diminishes the beer. I have noticed this with Sierra Neva before. Stores get in 12 packs of Torpedo that are over 3 months old. Is there a reason that SN products cant get to market quicker? I just want to find some fresh Summerfest...

No issues like that here in AZ, In fact I think the summerfest I saw was only about 2 weeks old if I am remembering right. Same with Torpedo, all nice and fresh that I have seen.

Haven't noticed or had that issue here in AZ with Sierra Nevada. Might be more of a distributor issue?

its clearly your distributor and not SN's fault.

SN gets their beer to a ditrib within two weeks of bottling here in NJ; I'd imagine even less to IL

Yeah,I see torpedo with bottling dates later than the day I even see it on the shelves. Now that is fresh!

I would query the distributor. Not SN's fault.

We tend to get SN that's about 2 months old in my area. I picked up a 4-pack of Hoptimum the day it came in and it was just over two months from bottling. As others said, it has nothing to do with SN, just local distributors.

Move closer to California and you'll be all set. Just be sure to bring all the good beers that we CAN'T get here.

I live out on Long Island, and I have found Torpedo less than 3 weeks old at Target. So I can't exactly confirm a nationwide trend in slow delivery.

Torpedo is typically about a month and a half old around Tampa. Saw some early this month bottled on 5/17 and I jumped on them. To be honest there really isn't much of a difference between Torpedo that's two weeks old and Torpedo that's two months old, and this is coming from a huge proponent of fresh beer. SN has a top of the line bottling system, and they bottle condition.

As has been said, it's a distributor issue. I was happy to find 12-day-old Torpedo 12-packs just the other day -- I think that's the freshest Sierra Nevada I've seen here in NC.

I understand it is a distributor issue, but then my question is, why do distributors treat SN differently. Almost every other breweries beers show up much quicker than SN.

Also warehouse style liquor stores don't get the freshest beers. I go to localy owned craft beer stores who deal in a smaller volume, they usually get fresher brews. I can get fresh SN Hoptimun and Estate Ales also Lagunitas Maximus and Hop Stoopid. Can't find that at ABC or Total Wines

That's a question to ask the distributor, not a forum.

I've had no problem getting relatively fresh Torpedo here. Any "old" SN I've seen was a result of not selling (Hoptimum at the end of the run, for example) than it was because of a late distro.

Yessir! We're already seeing super-fresh Oskar Blues in NC -- can't wait 'til that's true of Sierra Nevada, too.

I can tell you from experience that certain distributors (including SN's in my area) hold back seasonals until they sell out of the previous seasonal. I've had Tumbler come rather late due to this practice. It's likely that's the case here.

Are you reading the julian code correctly? What is the code on your bottle? I highly doubt it was bottled the first week of march. Just an fyi, the first letter in julian dating corresponds with the year not the month
