"What Went Wrong"? or "Am I Missing Something"? are two titles that came to mind for me.

It was definitely missing that pronounced fresh Hop character that we all loved in '12

claims of "drain pour" make me laugh.

i've yet to read it was infected...which is the only reason i could see pouring a beer down the drain.

but whatever. i've enjoyed reading this thread. "SUCKS!" "GREAT!" "STALE HOPS (which, apparently smell like cheese)!" "HEAVENLY!"

    carry on.

I think the problem is, it seems there might be some good batches and bad batches out there..

I have no doubt there was a huge taste difference between what I had on tap at Nobi Public House and the bottle I purchased a week and a half later at my local HEB.

Just had on draft @ Rockwell Tavern. Even better on tap.

Even Pro-Am last year had issues. Everything I had that came to Austin was good but not great. Definitely no where near the "this is awesome!!11!eleventy!!" I had heard.
Got some that was sold in Houston and it definitely hit that awesome note. This beer seems very sensitive to storage and transport. I talked to the brewer, all of Pro-Am last year was all done in one batch. He said it was not a refrigerated truck that did the shipping and such a hop heavy brew is definitely going to be sensitive to heat.

The beers must be protected from the heat! We need a super hero who just makes sure beer is kept at the right temperature before I buy it.

Heavy Machinery DIPA tastes more like ProAm 2012 than Valkyrie. That's sad.

I guess you guys need to write a review on it so people know what they are getting.

I had this on cask at Hay Merchant last night (I think it was double dry hopped but I'm not sure) and it was so much better than the bottle I had a few weeks ago. But still not the ProAm I remember

Not Valkyrie related, but SS posted on fb that they are tapping a cask of "cherry chocolate stout" tonight at baker in the woodlands

I feel like most of you guys feed off each others rage here haha.. Valkyrie is not a bad beer by any means. and to think that some of you did the dastardly drain pour?? What a waste of a good craft beer! Southern Star is always releasing good unique brew.. don't diss them like that.

had one last week. just got to my store, so not sure if it is old, or a new batch or what... was pretty good. not Pro-Am good, but still really good. it was only like $5, so not bad. I was expecting to drainpour based on everything here.

I was told (not from SS) that the difference btw Pro-Am and Valkryie is that there's Semcoe in Pro-Am.

Not that we were dissing Southern Star, but many here were let down when Valkyrie didn't taste like Pro-AM 12. If you didn't have pro-am 12 before trying Valkyrie you would of understood. It was a fantastic/phenomenal DIPA! The pineyness/earthyness on that beer was sheer love to my tongue.

I still have a can i've been meaning to have, no idea how it has changed now though.
