How many Beats would it take for 1 BCBS Rare? Or am I better mixing and matching Beat with other stuff?

I believe I have seen 3 for 1 getting done multiple times.

I was able to do 12 Plinies for a Rare, so I think 3-4 ought to be able to do it.

3 beats for one rare. I know 3 people who have done that. Don't offer more, don't offer less. That's straight $4$, and both beers have similar demand. It's a perfect trade in an imperfect world.

I LOVE Beatification, have a Batch 3 and a decent amount of Batch 5 on the way, but compared to other offers for Rare if you throw up a FT, this offer doesn't touch the others. Someone had to stand up for Rare.

I recently did a 3:1...that seems to be the going rate right now...

Hey man, I love both too, but in the next month when Beat is all gone, you watch this offer get done... If not, ayve even 2:1. Just saying. Beat is only going to go up in trade value overtime. Also, the $4$ matches perfectly.

Man though, I am happy to try my 3rd rare this week.

A lot of people weren't lucky enough to find it for $45 a bottle. There were crazy markups across the board. And Rare's value has obviously increased too. The difference is that Rare's price tag discriminated against a certain type of customer as opposed to Beatification, which anyone could buy multiples of.

I may be wrong but isn't beat released once a year, is the same recipe, and has a yearly release of ~12,000 bottles as compared to Rare which was one time only with ~10,000 bottles? I'm not to trying to start an argument but if I'm right then I think comparing the two is more like apples to oranges.

I also agree 100% with aasher. I don't know what the percentage is but most people I know, including myself, weren't fortunate enough to only pay $45 a bottle.

Somebody probably has precise details, but Beat is sporadically released, and this one is a much larger bottle count than in the past. Plus these are only 375's. It's also been a while, and it's definitely not very plentiful.

Rare was 12,000 bottles, and its "one-time" status is a little meaningless at this point - since that comment, GI was sold to ABI. And I personally find it hard to believe that ABI is going to ignore a $50+/bottle moneymaker like Rare.

All of that said, all that really matters is what the two traders want to do. 3 for 1 seems fair, 4 for 1 seems pretty fair too at the moment for people who live right next to RR. But, as pointed out, 2 for 1 is probably what it will settle down to in a few months.

wouldn't the trade value of rare go up over time as well?

doesn't $4$ take that into account?

bears repeating. and i made the same comments about king henry. people gambling on the trade value of these one-offs are going to be disappointed when they (likely) come out again and they'll be forced to, gasp, actually drink the damn beer. if it isn't over the hill by then...

I really don't understand the point of holding onto a bottle for the sole purpose of hoping its trade value increases over time. At best people will end up trading their Rare for something like 2 Beatification Batch 5's in a few years, or quantity of newer releases. Limited releases are all going to more or less rise in value together, so relatively speaking, your trading power won't go up that much more on something like Rare. Yet a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, and all that...

The days of great white whales like M and Dave are gone, because very few bottles of those were saved. Nowadays everybody immediately stashes bottles in their cellar.

Yeah, but they'll have a new name so the people who stayed behind don't feel like they totally sold out, and it'll probably just make things more ridiculous.

My point is really that $4$ for a lot of people would be four bottles.

I don't see 2:1 Beat to Rare happening down the road. It doesn't make sense. Rare was released a year and a half ago. Why would someone hold onto a bottle for that long to trade it for a beer that was just released and people could buy cases of and at $15 a bottle. It's not like Rare was case stacked everywhere.

Before the winter release, Beatification hadn't been released since 2008.
