O.K., I haven't started the grill, and the rest of my family and guests are coming in from the pool. Just enough time to sneak in a second review before I run out of "Daddy's beer time."

This is a real winner. As I've warmed up to hops over the years, I find this just within the realm of enjoyable balance.

Please don't read into the Detroit pint glass and butterfly opener. I love my "D," regardless of the haters.

    Gotta respect the "D"!
My grandpa worked on the assembly line at Ford's Highland Park plant, and I spent a number of summers in the area as a kid. After the Seattle teams, I root for Detroit's (although I'm pretty irritated at the Pistons - the moment the Sonics vanished, they went all to hell...)

Back with a Hop Villain from Big Al's in White Center (though it's spelled Hop Villian here on BA, which almost led me to add the beer to the site before I found it).

Not bad, and certainly better than the last bottle I had from Big Al, which on reflection must have been infected.
    Have a great Sunday!

    New Bike Sunday

    ||Older Viscosity, By Port Brewing||
    http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/5318/34094/?ba=kemoarps
Last week was hell week for my nursing program with tests and papers due every day, so this weekend has included a decent amount of unwinding from that. BBQd with some of my classmates yesterday despite the flooding. I gotta say for a region that seems to consistently get a lot of rain, it kind of surprises me that there's still massive issues with flooding everytime the rain comes down. I suppose to some extent there's only so much you can do, but I guess I figured that a city so used to it would have better response/prevention measures.

Today was sunny and beautiful all morning and afternoon as I went and picked up my new bike (bought used, but new to me). Picked it up this afternoon and I've already put about 25 miles on it between riding back from picking it up and then making a quick trip to the liquor store. There were brief sunshowers on my ride until I was nearing home and there was a distinct line in the sky: where I came from was blue with little white fluffs, around my apartment it turned to a grey and black that I can only describe as angry. Lightning and enough rain that I can barely see the pavement 12 feet below me. Crazy.

Old Viscosity was one of those beers that, early in my craft drinking career absolutely blew me away. I distinctly remember sitting on my friend's floor playing Force Unleashed and ignoring the increasingly frantic phone calls and texts from my sister begging me to let her in (I was her RA at the time). I didn't realize the levels of flavour and texture that could be layered into a beer until then. Older Viscosity didn't elicit QUITE the same response, but I love me some Bourbon Barrel Aged Stouts, and it's a good one. It was one of the few beers I lugged with me when I moved from Washington to Saint Louis (it was literally the last item I purchased before moving, got it in Bellingham), and after this past week and getting my bike I felt like it was a good time to drink it.

Cheers all, thanks for listening to my meandering vignettes. You can send me the bill later

that's :sunglasses: cool but did you review it? or if not could you please explain to us what you thought of the beer as far as look, smell, taste, drinkability and overall opinion.

Your opinion and/or review of a beer that you've had for the very 1st time on any given Sunday is of value and interest to the regular readers/contributers of this weekly thread.

You are very much welcome here but please play by the (easy) rules*

    * RULES OF NBS: enjoy a beer that is new to you and either copy & paste your formal BA review or give the readers of the thread your opinion of the beer after your glass is empty.

    CHEERS!

Evolution IPA from Two Beers Brewing. Good not great. A lot of caramel malt flavor.

We went to the Northwest Best Brewfest in Lewiston, Idaho yesterday. Average at best. Not many breweries were represented by brewery staff, so it was more a general craft beer tasting. There wasn't much there you couldn't buy at your local Safeway store. Sam Adams Summer Ale at the "Northwest Best"... really? It was inexpensive, which might be the best you say for the event.

Mild and overcast here in Eastern Washington. After more than an inch of rain last week ( a lot for these parts) more rain coming for the first of the week I guess?

    Happy Trails!

Great beer to save for NBS from an incredible brewery. It would be a dream come true if Midnight ever made it this far East for retail.

*hit wrong "reply" button, this was in response to Beer Belly's second NBS for today.*

    Happy New CANorado Beer Sunday!
It was a nice, slow Sunday here at Chez Woody and as my plans for the summer break are beginning to look like they will include a train trip to visit Ma Petite Abeille (the Old Lady) in Colorado, I decided to focus on my backlog of CANs and especially the ones from Colorado.
What better way than to start with their state flag and the photo of the bottle label does not do justice to the graphics on the CAN?:
From Durango, I headed back to the front range and Boulder for some Foreign, not be CANfused with Strange:
but wanderlust took hold and I returned to Durango for what may have been the best of the day:
which seem to be the first two in a quarterly release series and the third, a mint stout (!), is out and on my Wants.
I will be in Da Burgh next Sunday, assisting Vecenie's Distributing at the Sharp Edge Euro Fest, so I may not be able to post. Keep the CAN faith in the meantime!

alesmith, yulesmith SUMMER. really excellent IIPA -- mystified that they call it Yulesmith -- but it is tasty nonetheless.

at 9.99 for a 22 it is a bit of a rip off however. they offer one of the greatest values in beer with SPEEDWAY STOUT at 11.99.. but $10 is a lot for a 22 of ipa.... especially when RUINTENATION was going for 6.99 and double jack is readily available for 7.99/22 ($.36/oz) or 11.99/4 pak ($.25/oz) ....

RUHSTALLER GILT EDGE Lage Beer is finally out.... http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/28270/94814

to my incredible disappointment it came out in a 4 pak of cans, which is ok, but for 10.99 for a 4 pak of 5.3% lager that is really wrong. really a 4 pak? you can get a 4 pak of old russian or red rocket for 7-8.99 but this is 10.99?

along those lines, why is Drake's Alpha Session a 4 pak... it is like these guys are just fucking with me.

NBS #2 American Pale Wheat Ale

After hanging with our 1 year old daughter for a book or two and a great episode of Sofia the First, it was time for one more.

This 80 Acre did not disappoint. Not quite the hop punch of Sumpin' Sumpin', but darn good.

Well, the rain has let up for the most part. I'm glad it didn't decide to start the torrential stuff until I made it home. Dinner and starting to think about what I have due this week while exploring a Colorado brew I was surprised I had never had before. Solid, and maybe I've just been spoiled, but I was hoping for a little more.
    Cheers!

Good evening, NBS! After lots of house and yard work this weekend, I'm glad to finally sit back, relax, and drink a new one today.

I picked up a single a little while ago (first time I've seen small bottles of the BA stuff), and have been patiently waiting, as I really enjoy Weyerbacher's offerings. Here is my review: Heresy

While not in the top echelon of barrel-aged Imperial Stouts I've ever tried, it was tasty its own right and unique.. enough to keep the brain synapses firing and dissecting what the assortment of flavors were? If that's not what trying new beer is all about, I don't know what is..

    Cheers!
