I spent the weekend expanding my shelving to fit all this stupid Bruery beer I've been buying:

Eventually the short one will be as tall as the tall one, but yesterday was apparently the start of the few day run of rain we get once a summer, so I had an abbreviated woodworking session. All told I should have 240 bottles of horizontal storage, which really OUGHT to be enough, right?

    ...Right?

That's really cool! But FYI beer is supposed to be stored upright:

Man I wish we had basements in Cali. Building cool ass bottles racks would be fun!

I'm in Cali... (Also that's not really a basement, more of a storage area built into the crawlspace under my apartment.)

Does it regulate the temp very well? Awesome handy work either way, that is if your building the racks yourself.

It does okay, seems to range high 50's on the coldest days in winter to high 60's on the hottest days in summer.

I'm sort of building the racks myself. I get some of these (although from Craigslist, not Amazon) and then build the fronts from scratch. The reason for building those fronts is that the racks by themselves just don't hold bottles very well, in an earthquake they'd all be on the ground. Which is generally undesirable. The new ones, however, hold the bottles in very nicely, in an earthquake I'm far more worried about the whole thing tipping over than the bottles falling out (which is why it's tied to the wall).

I have the design in SolidWorks, and if people are interested I can upload the PDFs along with some instructions. I also have plans for the rears and the side blocks (I had to make some of those too), so if someone wanted they could make the whole damn thing themselves.

I bought bottle wax from amazon.

    http://amzn.com/B0064OFWDG

I used an empty soup can in boiling water to heat the wax beads and then dipped each bottle once. I would recommend using a pot to boil the water that you don't care about. The wax will most likely spill a bit.

    Cheers!

The real question is does it fit the Armand'4s? I struggle with this

It does not, but if you modified the side blocks a bit it could. They just BARELY don't fit. Those bottles are really inconvenient.

I need to build a separate rack for mine... Or just drink them!

Both good options. If you're interested I can send you over the drawings for my racks.

I notice your '/troll' footnote, so I'm not sure if this post was ironic. But anyway I still want to point out that the rationale being offered there is almost entirely speculative or specious, and several of the 'technical' pontifications over cork mechanics contradict each other.

I see that the 2006 BADL swingtop 1L disappeared. I'd love to hear what happened to that one.
