Would you drink Hopslam, right now?

I don't think I've ever NOT gotten Hopslam when I've seen it on tap. It's one of the rare ones that I just can't pass up. Sure the hops fade, this is just common knowledge by now. But that doesn't take away from how great this beer is - just adds a different perspective.

Because fresh Double Trouble is far better than old Hopslam.

Over Memorial day weekend I was in the Wisconsin Dells. They have $2.50 draft on Sundays with a some pretty good crafts. We drank quite a few Hopslam drafts that weekend and they were pretty tasty. I has been another month now and I would definitely do it again.

I had a hopslam a few weeks ago and the honey notes were fantastic in it. I thought it was awesome!

Yep. Or fresh Hoptimum, or Maharaja, or Palate Wrecker, or any number of double IPAs. And that's not a knock on Hopslam, as it's a great beer. But if I'm drinking an IPA, I want it to be reasonably fresh, not half-a-year old.

It baffles me why anyone would actively age an IPA period, let alone Hopslam.

I've kept one in the fridge for a year and it tasted great. Did the hops fade? Sure. But a specific taste profile fading isn't the same as flavors changing for the worse.

I like strong, dark coffee. But I'm okay with it being weaker. As long as the flavor doesn't become something it shouldn't (infections, skunk, exposure to light or heat) I can still enjoy an older beer, even if the IBUs mellow out over time.

BTW, the Hopslam I aged a year was still pretty hoppy. I bet if I served it to a BA and didn't tell him, he wouldn't have known. Tasting fresh to old back to back, sure. But just pouring a beer and not saying the age, I bet a lot of BAs would be surprised.

    This.

I had one last July and it was really tasty, and I agree, the honey really does come through. I'd drink the hell out of some Hopslam right now.

I'm sorry you are only able to have one beer in a sitting. Work on that.

Complaining when a beer is less than 6 months old is bit spoiled.

The honey overtakes surprisingly quickly changing the profile completely. I greatly prefer it fresh but it is still quit good and interesting with some age on it, very different & expect honey.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think it's undrinkable in the least at that age. I'm just pointing out that I'd much rather have a fresher IPA. Not so much a complaint as it is my buying preference.

I had it on tap 6/22. It was a shell of its former self, I rather felt as if I had wasted my money. The 7venth Sun Intergalactic Pale Ale was much nicer

I'd definitely go for one, although price may be an issue. But one? Absolutely. If it turns out that I still like it a lot - even if it isn't the exact same - then cheers!

I don't let an IIPA being past peak to put me off to it. I don't hold it against the beer, either, if it's not fresh, but I still might like it, so why not give it a try?

Well, it's only 7:45am, so probably not. Check back with me in a couple hours though.

You have to remember that Hopslam is completely flavorless by the time the bottle is capped on the line.
