Have not tried them all, but from my experience, the bottle aesthetics/labeling change. I've had Veritas 004 that has been labeled "004" on the back, and some that have only been labeled "004" on the cork. The Veritas 005 I had at a tasting only had "005" in black Sharpie on the cork. Additionally, the 005 I received from Tomme himself a few years back, only included the front Veritas label (no back label), and included, again, "005" in black Sharpie on the cork. I see similar things with the Yellow Bus's that leave the brewery (i.e., not consistent, but still the same great beer).

Good thread though, good information in here guys!

    Yes, this is right.

Cuvee de Tomme is deep mahogany (almost black). When I first heard this, I was shocked, but went along with it like everyone else. Veritas 004 is as light as can be - no way CdT is in it

So the limit was two. Do we have a hard count how many were sold or bottled?

i dunno my information was pretty good, haha

u were there went we opened the 009, what did u think of it?

im surprised by the folks that enjoy that beer, maybe bottle variation? i tried it over the course of that night each time thinking maybe it had opend up to something decent... nope. there was still half a bottle left at the end of the night (with so much good beer that night even if it was good it might still have had some left). maybe if i had it next to Idtios drool and Chez Monieux, i would have enjoyed it.

Don't you say that about Chez Monieux. My wife's friends love that stuff.

According to Tomme, Veritas 007 was an attempt to re-create Veritas 005 but with different grapes (cab franc grapes instead of wild grapes). They used the same base beer, and it was not Isabelle Proximus.

Veritas 006 does not have Angel's Share in it, nor does it have grapes. Tomme said that it was Sangre del Cristo with orange zest (or orange peel, he couldn't remember) aged in red wine barrels.

This is exactly why I started this thread in the first place. The entire Veritas series is wrought with contradiction, rumor, heresy, variation, etc. It has a built in cache of hype and mystique. So cloak and dagger, so metal.

That came directly from Tomme's mouth. When he showed up at our Lost Abbey tasting last year, we asked him what all the Veritas blends were and he rattled them off at light speed. We were able to snag some notes, but didn't get everything.

ISO: Tomme's mouth and a Yellow Bus to randomly arrive at my doorstep.

Can you comment on any of the other blends?

It looks like the notes in the thread on Veritas 002, 003, 004 (with Mellow Yellow, not CdT), and 008 are all consistent with what he told us. Veritas 009 used Knights' Templar (KT) as its base beer. Unfortunately I don't have notes on V001.

I can also tell you that as of last year, Veritas 004 and 005 were tasting fucking amazing! Yellow Bus and Veritas 006 & 007 seemed to be on their way downhill, unfortunately, but all still were quite good. YB and V006 were starting to get a little vinegary while V007 had lost almost all of its grape flavor and was basically just a light wine barrel-aged sour.

It certainly does. Sangre had like 8 things in it, and Angel's Share with grapes was one of them, which was one of the barrels we tasted at the barrel night where 006 was released.

Ah that might be true. I don't know what the components of Sangre/Sangria are. I just know that beer wasn't then blended with Angel's Share to make V006, but it very well could be part of the initial blend.

i think you have to invalidate dwagner for getting 3 out of 8 descriptions wrong in that post.
sure he was just relaying info, but that should hardly deserve a prize

chris q + hophead know waaaaaay more about this stuff than anyone outside tomme should know

Meant to be a harmless thread for a couple answers. Either way, we all win for having much of this information posted in one thread. Call me lazy, but I like to have other people do research for me. It really wasn't a contest, but I did want to give away some free beer for the effort. Box has already left the station so if anyone is really concerned about it, contact me.

Since V9 sucks so bad it should be easy to trade for right. I can hook up some Bruery sours for any that people don't want.
