I purchased 2.5 cases [15 4pks.] of Heady Topper at the cannery this past weekend. I plan to give away total of 24 cans to people I know if they can tell me something about the beer. That way I know they'll appreciate it since they've taken the time to research. 2 cans each; one to drink from the can and one to drink from a glass.
But don't bother with a reply telling me something about the beer; I don't know you.

What happened to that guy? I'll tell you what happened to him. After he was released from the hospital he moved over the mountains to Seattle, where he's been plotting sweet, sweet revenge with an almost religious, single-minded ferocity. Watch your back, leedorham. Beer karma's a bitch.

Or he will die in a car accident. Could go either way.

Today I went to my local Whole Foods to gets some food, and stopped in at their pub and got a pint of Sly Fox Simon Maibock (named after the famous three-legged goat). Anyway, got the brew, ate my lunch and then grabbed some various bottles and paid for them, and left. Just as I got to the car, I realized, "I didn't pay for my draft." I ran back in and let the guy know I forgot to pay, and he gave me a lot of praise. He let me know if I was back in he'd get me a beer on him, which I don't know will happen, but it was a good feeling to know that my absentmindedness and honesty had turned into the move of a good samaritan. Makes me wonder how high that guy's hopes are for humanity, but oh well. I'll be honest though... if it wasn't a craft brew, I probably wouldn't have wasted my time to go back in!

One day in the winter of 2011 or 2012 (the years blur together sometimes), I learned that Nugget Nectar had made it to the Albany area. After working a relatively late night, I went to my favorite local beverage center with the intention of buying a case (like I'd done the previous year). When I arrived they were sold out. So I drove to another Beverage Center, arriving about 10 minutes before closing time, and discovered that they were down to their last 2 six-packs. I grabbed them both, then wandered the aisles looking for other purchases. . . . A younger guy and his GF walked in; he asked if they had any Nugget Nectar, the clerk told him he'd just sold the last of it. The guy took it in stride and grabbed some Bigfoot, then wandered the aisles while I checked out (he didn't realize I'd gotten the last Nugget Nectar). I went out to my car, put the beer in the trunk and the younger guy walked out.

"Hey," I said. "You ever had Nugget Nectar before?"

"No," he replied. "Was hoping to get some this year."

"Well," I said. "I bought the last of this year's supply; was hoping to get a case, but all they had was a couple sixers. But I've had it before and can make do with 11 instead of 12. Here." And I gave him a bottle. He was most appreciative. . . .

The following summer a bunch of us put together a college reunion. One of my old college friends lives in Burlington; she offered to bring down as much Heady Topper as I wanted. Not wanting to be greedy, I said, "How about a couple 4-packs?"

She replied, "Well, I bought 2 cases, so take as much as you'd like!" She was planning on splitting it with me and a husband of one of our friends who, it turns, was quite the beer geek (after the reunion weekend, I hooked up with him on FB and on occasion we'd share stories of what we were drinking). Anyway, I took a case but gave away a 4-pack to a local BA who'd dragged me along to the Saratoga Brewfest that winter, gratis. . . .

Well, a couple months ago, I get a text from the college friend whose hubby is a beer geek: "We're heading to VT this weekend; do you want us to bring you back some Heady Topper?" Of course I said yes and received 3 4-packs in a local hotel parking lot . . . .

So in my mind, that one Nugget Nectar that I gave away on a cold night in Albany has begat cans and cans of Heady Topper. Beer Karma dude. Beer Karma. . . .

That just seems like three separate incidences where one person was nice to another, and not in any sort of coincidence or unusually frequency.

I don't know about all that. If this was your way of mocking karma, I salute you.

I thought the old lady in Titanic was only a necrophiliac? Is there more to the story?

Was at a local brewery for an event (nothing major) and, in addition to the couple of brews I quaffed, I also had a small dinner.
Was going to leave and the bartender gave me my tab (I was sitting at the bar). Noticed that in all the commotion and busy-ness it didn't have my dinner on there. Called the bartender over, and you could see in his eyes he was scared I was about to argue my tab. Pointed out that, while those were indeed the beers I had drank, I had also had some food.
Bartender was super grateful and the people next to me overheard it and gave me high fives.
Not sure where the karma comes in (will come in?), not that I have much faith in the concept in the first place, but doing the right thing/establishing a positive relationship with a local business is a good thing in and of itself, no?

At three floyds brewpub for the first time sitting at the bar with my woman. Guy walks up to the bar and orders a dreadnaught and the lady and I begin a conversation with the guy. He was a lil more local than we are and talks about the area and b.s. until I ask him why he was there. It's his sons birthday he explains to me, he's filling two growlers of gumball head for the b day sauce. I was like sweet, fucking best Dad ever right here!!! Asked him how old his son was turning and he was the same age as me which was cool, just a nice lil convo about b.s. and beer. After a half hour or so he gets up slaps a 20 dollar bill down and says, next rounds on me. I was completely blown away by this blatant generosity, turned it down, he insisted and after I said thank you way too many times he bailed. I then used the 20 to buy a round for the lady and I and purchase my very first sixer of zombie dust! Great night, great first floyds experience, you never know where a lil genuine kindness will getcha!!
