Enjoyed a bottle tonight with the wife. Didn't think I'd like it but its an easy drinker. We finished off the bottle in short order.

Regarding one of the complaints. Is Johnson getting a cut now? It will be interesting to see what Darkness prices look like with a distributor getting a piece. Pentagram was $25-26 a bottle in distribution territory and Darkness was a similar price range.

I'm wondering if consumer spending on $20+ on bottles is sustainable long-term. Most people here will, but that doesn't cover what is being produced in that class nationwide. I don't think it is any accident that old $12 Dreadnaught is getting moved to Hudson and Eau Claire. There are competitive options at lower price points. Similar trends of people willing to spend a premium on rounds of golf on elite courses and to acquire the top quality cigars have came and left. People still do it, but not enough to support the entire industry built around that collective mass. Maybe beer is a different case and a great bottle will continue to attract a premium price.

Um, yes, Johnson is getting a cut, they are not just being nice to Surly. If Seviin sits on the shelves for a while, or reappears in a week, Stores may order less of certain releases. Darkness will always command a premium. Currently there is nothing else like this in Minneapolis. If there were other releases that you could get in stores, at that point you may see dollars go somewhere else. But I do agree that $25-26 a bottle would make me think much more. Look to other markets and you will see 29.99 for Eclipse all over the place and it is much more limited.

Regarding your comment on Dreadnaught, I agree with you. $12 for a DIPA is steep when I can get many 4 packs for the same price and just as good. I have passed it up in Hudson recently

Any chance this lasts until Friday? I will be driving up from Chicago and spending the night before heading up to Bemidji. Anyone have a honeyhole they are willing to BM an infrequent (read: never) visitor to the area.

At the price point, I suspect it'll be hanging around in smaller venues for a while.

I hit up Zipps on my lunch break and there are probably close to 100 bottles sitting out. No limit on bottles now either. Go get 'em boys!

All over up north already, wifey found me 2 bottles (they had plenty) at Cold One in Cloquet. Usually stuff doesn't get up there for a few weeks after the cities, if ever.

Luckily I think I was their only customer for Darkness last time, grabbed a bottle every month or so and seemed I was the only one :stuck_out_tongue:
