I always ask for a glass, and usually specify which type of glass...because, in my experience, you usually get whatever they decide to grab (generally a stange or pint glass).

I ask for a glass, then drink the beer really fast when they walk away. When they come back with the glass, I take it then hand them the empty bottle and ask for another beer. Then, when they bring the new bottle, I ask for another glass.

    They love that.

When at friends' places, it's usually me who brings the beer. If no glasses are around, I have found it easy and not too impolite to ask for a wine glass. It suits me very well, and oftentimes someone else is drinking wine.
In some cases if its something that's not extremely fancy, the bottle will do.

That reminds me, if you had to go to mars and could only take 10 different macro beers, would you drink a six month old Heady Topper?

I've opted for a wine glass many times because if the right glass isn't available you know most people or establishments have wine glasses. 'Never felt bad about asking in an establishment and no one has ever given me a hard time about it and didn't mind at all.

Depends on the bar. If it's a craft oriented bar, it's silly for them not to present a glass with the beer. I would ask in this situation, though I shouldn't have to.

Ordering a craft at your average bar that only carries a few craft options? I wouldn't exactly expect them to think about offering a glass, as craft beer isn't a priority of theirs. Would I ask for one? Probably not, as it's likely going to be a beer I've had before. I don't care quite as much if I already know what to expect from the beer.

In a bar, I always ask. Then I know that I'll have to make sure to tell them not to bring a frosted one.

And according to a certain server on this site, it is unreasonable for us to expect a glass with a bottle. It's up to US to ask for one.

If it's at someone's home, it depends on the situation.

First of all, I'd remember it's only beer. Then I'd ask for a glass.

I politely ask for a glass. On the bright side, if they chill their glasses, having it separate works out better, because then you can wait until the frost melts off before pouring the beer in.

If I'm at a bar, it depends on the beer I order. I usually drink cheap at the bar, so a glass doesn't really matter. But, if I ordered a craft beer and they didn't give me a glass, I see nothing wrong with asking politely. As long as you're not a royal dick about it, why would they give you a hassle?

If I'm at a friend's house and they offer me something (a craft beer, for the sake of the topic) without a glass, I'd casually ask if they have any beer glasses. As long as you're not like, "yo bro wheres the fuckin glass at?" you'll be alright. Who knows, it could be a conversation starter if he's unaware of why you want a glass!

When I'm in restaurants and they bring me a chilled glass I often just pour my water into the beer glass and pour my beer into the water glass. That is of course if this viable circumstance occurs. As a result I get chilled water and non-chilled beer. Then I slap the waitress on the butt to show both my excitement and my appreciation.

At a bar I will ask for a glass, not had much of a problem. At a friends I will usually ask if they have a glass if its a big deal but usually if its something that really needs a glass they are aware of this.
I have had to stop a person from drinking straight out of a 750 bottle of something nice and went and got them a proper glass from my apartment. I was horrified but also felt like a snob for making a big deal about it. But we talked about the beer and I hope I was able to pass a little bit of beer knowledge along.

I politely ask for a glass. However it can not be a glass they freeze that has ice dripping from it. If I wanted water in my beer, I would order something light.
